GOAT! Williams won the Australian Open eight weeks pregnant

Serena Williams, who today returned to the World No.1 ranking despite having only played two tournaments this year – among them the Australian Open, which she won two months pregnant, solidifying undeniably her place as the Greatest of All Time in the sport.

Today, Williams, who dropped to #2 after her break, has officially returned to the top rank today, making her the oldest World No. 1 in tennis history, male or female. Acknowledging her latest laurel, 35-year-old Serena took to social media sharing website Instagram to also wish her partner on his birthday.

Williams is in a long-term relationship with Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian; the pair got engaged in Rome, Italy last year, with Williams revealing that she was pregnant in a post to Snapchat; the news was later confirmed officially by her publicist, who also revealed that the American ace was 20 weeks pregnant at the time of the announcement – making her eight weeks pregnant when she won the Australian Open title, her 23rd Major.

Thanking her partner for his support, Williams wished him a Happy Birthday [Ohanian turns 34 today], with the pair celebrating a ‘babymoon’ in Mexico. In the post, Williams described her unborn child as “giving [me] strength I didn’t know I had.

Addressing the post tongue-in-cheek “from the oldest number one to the youngest number one,” Williams, in the post, told her future child she “could not wait” for them to join the players’ box next year.

In news that will also buoy fans of the GOAT, this appears to confirm what both Williams and her representative earlier reiterated – that Serena is aiming for a 2018 return to the sport.
