Rybakina was already out of the competition after suffering two losses in her opening two matches against Jasmine Paolini and Zheng Qinwen. However. the 25-year-old produced a special performance to defeat Sabalenka 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 in her final game of the tournament.

Speaking after her match, Rybakina claimed that she was happy to win against the World No. 1. The Kazakh star admitted that it was a tough match but was happy to end up on the right side of the result.

“It was a tough match. I’m really happy I managed to win. It’s nice to finish the year with at least one win against the world #1. She has all the chances to win also. Good luck to her. I’m just happy. Thank you so much guys for the support,” Elena Rybakina said.
