Being the second seed, Agassi was given a bye in the first round and faced Dutchman Dan Siemerink in the second round whom he beat in three sets to set up a match against 16th seed Albert Costa in the third round. Costa steamrolled him 6-2, 6-1 and would go on to reach the final where he lost to Thomas Muster.
