Serena Williams of the USA returns the ball to Romania’s Simona Halep during their semi-final on May 18, 2013 at the Rome Masters. World number one Williams swept aside qualifier Simona Halep 6-3, 6-0 to reach the final.

World number one Serena Williams swept aside qualifier Simona Halep to reach the final of the Rome Open on Saturday.

Williams was barely put under threat by the unseeded Romanian in a 6-3, 6-0 win on centre court.

The 30-year-old American will meet the winner of the second semi-final between seventh seed Viktoria Azarenka of Belarus and Italian Sara Errani, seeded seventh, in Sunday’s final.
