General Hospital's executive producer, Frank Valentini, confirmed the news to TV Insider, adding that the door would always be open for Jonathan's return. Although the character has been moving in and out of the soap's storyline, his return in August 2024 was for a longer stint. Fans had hoped Lucky would settle down this time, making his abrupt decision to leave again a surprising development.

Meanwhile, other story arcs on General Hospital include Michael and Willow's messy custody battle and Sasha's premature baby daughter. Elsewhere, Alexis's embezzlement scandal is poised for exposure with Marco looking up her "investments." The long-running ABC daily soap is also presenting the complicated relationship dynamics surrounding Gio's new family.

Jonathan Jackson has been part of the ABC soap intermittently. The Emmy Award-winning actor portrayed Lucky Spencer in spurts between 1993 and 1999, 2009 and 2011, 2015, and 2024 and 2025, but always as a cast regular. Over the years, Lucky's character returned to present various arcs, including helping the rape victim, Elizabeth, move on with a young romance that did not include premarital physical intimacy.
