The series takes place in the coastal town of Evelyn Bay, Tasmania, 15 years after a terrible event that still haunts the people who live there. Kieran Elliott lived through the storm that killed his brother Finn and his friend Toby. On the anniversary of the storm, he goes back to his hometown with his partner Mia and their daughter Audrey. But when they return, it brings up painful memories, and they have to face their own grief.

Kieran's troubled past is shown at the start of the show. On the night of the storm, his brother and friend drowned while trying to save him from a dangerous sea cave. Gabby Birch, a teenage girl, also didn't come back that night.

The town mourns the deaths of Finn and Toby, but Gabby's death is mostly forgotten. This shows that the town tends to value male deaths more than female ones. Bronte found him while she was looking for answers. He had been lying about the truth for 15 years. Sean kills Bronte because he thinks she will tell on him. Her body is found on the beach.

In the ending confrontation, Sean is charged with the murders of both Gabby and Bronte. At the end of the season, Kieran comes to a new understanding with his family. He makes peace with his mother and learns that it's important to stay close to his friends and family.
