A week earlier on Smackdown, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn had ambushed Shane McMahon after his apology that he was unfair towards them. Bryan made the right decision to fire them as they had crossed their lines.
Owens and Zayn couldn't digest the fact they were fired and thumped Bryan. Bryan had fought them off momentarily before he was eventually outnumbered.
The two-on-one assault continued as Zayn delivered a Helluva kick to Bryan, and Owens gave a Pop-up Powerbomb to their former boss on the ring apron.
Owens and Zayn accumulated a lot of heat for this segment. The fact that it occurred just mere hours after Bryan's announcement that he had been cleared to compete added fuel to the fire.
Moreover, the flurry of kicks delivered by Bryan gave a glimpse of what we had been missing for the last three years.
