5 Things that should happen at Royal Rumble but won't

Will Brock Lesnar be standing tall on Sunday?
Will Brock Lesnar be standing tall on Sunday?

One of the big four PPVs in WWE, the Royal Rumble has thrown up numerous surprises over the years, while also being the platform for WWE Superstars to kick start their road to WrestleMania.

This year's Royal Rumble will see some blockbuster matches, apart from the two battle royal matches of the men and women. Finn Balor will finally get a chance to face off against Brock Lesnar, while AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan continue their heated rivalry.

Over on the women's side, Becky Lynch will get an opportunity to win back the SmackDown women's title from Asuka, while Sasha Banks gets a shot at Ronda Rousey's RAW women's title.

The show is bound to create a huge buzz with surprise entrants, exciting matches, as well as shocking twists and turns.

There are certain things that the WWE Universe wants to see at the Royal Rumble, but WWE may hold it back or not deem it the perfect time to do it.

Here are 5 things that should happen at Royal Rumble but won't:

#5 Bobby Lashley attacks Brock Lesnar to set up a dream feud

Bobby Lashley
Bobby Lashley

Bobby Lashley recently became the Intercontinental champion, his first title in the WWE since returning to the promotion last year, as he defeated Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins in a triple threat match.

Since his return to the WWE, Lashley has feuded with several RAW Superstars, but many WWE fans believe that there is more that we can expect from the former TNA star. One dream feud that WWE fans were eager to watch Lashley be involved in is a match with Universal champion Brock Lesnar.

Lesnar and Lashley have similar backgrounds, as both have experience in the WWE and MMA. This is a match that can be set up at the Rumble in a backstage segment, or even either of them interfering in the other's match.

Lashley vs. Lesnar would be a marquee match for WrestleMania 35, and a match that would tick all the boxes for Vince McMahon.

I'm not sure WWE would want to set up this match at Rumble and drive the focus away from the winners of the Royal Rumble match, or the other title matches.

#4 WWE Four Horsewomen vs MMA Four Horsewomen feud

WWE's Four Horsewomen

WWE's women's division has had a great year, with Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey dominating the headlines, while the likes of Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks and co. have put on great matches.

Becky Lynch perhaps had the best year of all Superstars in the WWE last year, with her "The Man" gimmick winning over fans.

One feud that is now possible, that has been touted for a long time to happen, is a feud between the Four Horsewomen of WWE - Becky Lynch, Bayley, Charlotte Flair, and Sasha Banks, against the Four Horsewomen of MMA - Ronda Rousey, Shayna Baszler, Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir.

All 8 Superstars are currently in the WWE, and WWE have for a long time teased a potential clash between the two factions. All of them may not be on the same brand, but the Royal Rumble is a great place to kick off a feud with the Royal Rumble match.

Fans would love to see this happen, but with the focus on a possible triple threat match between Ronda Rousey, Charlotte Flair, and Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 35, WWE may not light a fire on this huge feud between these supremely talented women at the Rumble.

#3 Kenny Omega entering the Royal Rumble

The rumour mill has been abuzz for a couple of months about former NJPW star Kenny Omega's arrival at the WWE.

The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega are rumoured to have discussions with WWE in the past, but the Bucks signing with AEW, Omega is the only one that could make the switch to Vince McMahon's promotion.

But I have a feeling that Omega and AEW are waiting to make the announcement, perhaps doing it on the day of Royal Rumble about Omega signing with the new promotion.

Signing with the WWE would mean that Omega's schedule would be much more packed than his days of wrestling with NJPW and ROH, and the prospect of building a new promotion like AEW could tempt him to sign with them, while the lighter schedule will help him too.

#2 Becky Lynch wins SmackDown Women's title

Becky Lynch lost her SmackDown women's title at the TLC PPV to Asuka, after interference by Ronda Rousey helped the Japanese Superstar her first title on the main roster.

I, for one, was disappointed that Becky's title run ended so quickly (94 days) and was thoroughly enjoying her new character, like the millions of WWE fans.

This feud that Becky is having with Asuka seems like one that will try to put Asuka over and bring her back into the fold rather than help Lynch in any way. Lynch will not win the SmackDown women's title at Royal Rumble because that would kill the feud quickly as well as Asuka's credibility - the same Superstar who had a record run as NXT women's champion.

#1 Finn Balor as Universal Champion

Finn Balor
Finn Balor

Finn Balor will face off against Brock Lesnar at Royal Rumble and try to win back the title that he never lost. Balor winning against Lesnar would be one of the biggest upsets in recent WWE history, as everyone is tipping Lesnar to defeat Balor and retain his title.

Vince McMahon himself said this past week that Balor didn't have any chance of defeating The Beast: “If any of you in hillbilly land actually believe that Finn can beat Brock then you definitely believe in fairytales," said McMahon.

It seems that the odds are stacked against Balor and he will most likely lose, or a win for him will mostly come if Braun Strowman or some other Superstar interferes and Balor wins by DQ (which means that Lesnar will still be champion).

The WWE Universe adores him, but maybe the WWE's creative team doesn't feel the same about Balor.
