3 Things that could happen if Brock Lesnar becomes the WWE Champion

On the inaugural episode of Friday Night SmackDown on FOX Sports, WWE Champion Kofi Kingston will defend his title against The Beast Incarnate, Brock Lesnar.

Let's be real here. If WWE is going forward with this plan, the reigning WWE Champion only has a very small chance to retain his well-earned title. It is almost for sure that Kofi will lose the WWE Championship to The Beast Incarnate as SmackDown transitions to a new era.

So, what will happen after Brock Lesnar becomes the WWE Champion again? Today, we take a look at just a few things that could - and probably will - happen if Brock Lesnar becomes the WWE Champion.

#3 A clash with The Fiend

Seth Rollins will face The Fiend at Hell in a Cell.

The next PPV on WWE's calendar is Hell in a Cell. Following that, we have one of the big four PPVs - Survivor Series - in November. As per tradition, the RAW brand will go head to head against SmackDown in several matches.

The reigning Universal Champion, Seth Rollins, has a hurdle before Survivor Series. The Architect will be defending the Universal Championship against The Fiend, Bray Wyatt, at Hell in a Cell inside the demonic structure.

If Lesnar defeats Kingston on the inaugural episode of SmackDown LIVE, we could potentially see a "Champion vs Champion" match between him and Wyatt. In 2016, WWE cancelled a feud between Wyatt and Lesnar during the WrestleMania season.

In the current scenario, Wyatt taking on Lesnar would certainly be a money-making match and WWE will not ignore such a tremendous opportunity. If everything goes well, we could see some brilliant pieces of storytelling leading up to Survivor Series.

#2 WWE Championship will become a bit more prestigious

Kofi Kingston never headlined a PPV as the WWE Champion whereas Seth Rollins headlined four out of the five PPVs after WrestleMania 35.

The WWE Championship is one of the most prestigious titles in the company. However, when we compare the WWE Championship with its counterpart on RAW, we can see that it has always taken a backseat.

WWE is not even giving the main event slot of SmackDown LIVE to Kofi Kingston and his rivals. Instead, for the past few weeks, the main event picture of the Blue Brand has been revolving around Roman Reigns, Eric Rowan, and Daniel Bryan.

Giving the WWE Championship to Brock Lesnar will elevate the prestige of the title. Brock Lesnar is undoubtedly WWE's best draw and the ccompany will advertise Brock Lesnar's bouts as much as possible.

As it has done throughout 2017 and 2018, WWE will make a big deal out of every single Brock Lesnar title defence and we will see an increase in the number of PPVs headlined by WWE Championship matches.

Kofi Kingston, unfortunately, could not elevate the championship during his reign. Kingston's feuds against the likes of Kevin Owens, Dolph Ziggler and Samoa Joe were not memorable.

#1 More PPVs without the WWE Championship

Brock Lesnar barely made appearances on RAW while being the Universal champion.

Putting the strap on Brock Lesnar is a double-edged sword. The WWE Championship will become more prestigious - as we pointed out earlier - and the title matches will feel more special. However, we will have to pay a price for it.

Brock Lesnar has been notorious for skipping most of the PPVs and defending the title only when he wants to. Lesnar has been in bouts at the big 4 PPVs but has barely defended the title or made an appearance at the minor ones.

Lesnar has been the Universal Champion for more than 650 days across his three reigns. However, he has only defended the Universal Championship only for a handful of times. We will have to deal with the absence of the prestigious WWE Championship between major PPVs.

Lesnar's WWE Championship reign in 2014-15 is a major example. Lesnar defeated John Cena at SummerSlam 2014 to capture his first WWE Championship since making his return to WWE in 2012.

However, after his obligatory rematch against Cena, Lesnar did not defend the title till Royal Rumble in January 2015. We may see a repeat of this cycle if Lesnar is to become the WWE Champion on the inaugural episode of Friday Night SmackDown.
