3 things WWE got right at Money in the Bank 2019 and 2 things they got wrong

WWE Money in the Bank 2019 is officially in the history books, and what a show it was!

The tenth iteration of the pay per view, the show was highlighted by the two titular ladder matches, which saw 16 Superstars, eight women and eight men compete for a guaranteed title match at a time of their choosing.

Along the way, the WWE Universe saw exciting action, death-defying stunts not only in the two ladder matches but throughout the entire show.

But not everything went according to plan last night, and for as good as Money in the Bank was, the company did have some shortfalls along the way.

Here are three things WWE got right at this year's Money in the Bank pay per view, as well as two things that could have been a whole lot better.

#3 Got it right: Miz and Shane delivers inside a Steel Cage

These two had a tall order following up from their WrestleMania 35 match, but were able to deliver.

but were able to deliver.

In the now infamous 2016 Talking Smack promo, The Miz was criticised by Daniel Bryan for being 'too safe', and not pushing himself enough.

Well, last night the A-Lister worked his backside off inside a Steel Cage against nemesis Shane McMahon, and it showed.

It seems baffling that someone who was once WWE's ultimate despicable heel for so long, is now using his acting chops to be adored by the crowd.

I have to also give props to Shane McMahon, as the 49-year-old Best in the World proved that he is still capable of delivering a great match.

Despite Miz coming up short against his former tag team partner, I'm expecting big things for the Reality Show star over the summer.

#2 Got it wrong: The Usos topple Bryan/Rowan

The lines between RAW and SmackDown Live continue to be blurred.
The lines between RAW and SmackDown Live continue to be blurred.

Even though its been over a year since his return to the ring, it is still a sight to see Daniel Bryan compete.

Despite losing his WWE Championship at WrestleMania 35, the Eco Warrior has bounced back nicely, capturing the SmackDown tag team titles with partner Rowan.

In a bizarre piece of booking though, the pair lost promptly last night to The Usos, the very same team they defeated to capture the titles.

This will probably lead to a title opportunity for Jimmy and Jey, despite them being on RAW, though the Wild Card rule could mean they appear on SmackDown.

If they did win the titles though, they'd surely return to RAW, or would they, since it'd be blue brand gold, but held by RAW Superstars.

Wrestling shouldn't be this complicated.

#2 Got it right: Bayley is Money in the Bank

Shortly after winning Money in the Bank, Bayley became the new SmackDown Women's Champion, cashing in on Flair.
Shortly after winning Money in the Bank, Bayley became the new SmackDown Women's Champion, cashing in on Flair.

Despite some shortcomings on the main roster, Bayley remains to be one of the most popular stars in the company's Women's division.

Last night, the Huggable One proved her tenacity by capturing the Women's Money in the Bank contract, becoming the third woman to do so. Not wasting any time, Bayley cashed in her contract not long after to capture the SmackDown Women's Title, defeating the new-champ Charlotte Flair.

Flair is also the women Bayley toppled to win the RAW Women's Gold in 2017, so seeing The Queen fall to her again is some nice referencing.

After a shaky couple of years, Bayley is back on top of the Women's Division, and it'll be fascinating to see where the company takes her character from here.

#1 Got it wrong: Brock captures Money in the Bank

The Beast's shocking win has left many fans unhappy.
The Beast's shocking win has left many fans unhappy.

Throughout my writing, I've often been called a WWE apologist for my tendency to not feel the company is as bad as some fans claim it to be. And although I still think that WWE is doing pretty well for themselves with stars like Kofi Kingston, Seth Rollins and AJ Styles on top, there are some things that are hard to defend.

Brock Lesnar winning the Money in the Bank contract is one of those things.

In a company where so much pressure has been put on making new stars (Ali and Andrade for example), having the Beast win the briefcase is definitely a step back.

If Brock was to have a title match, he doesn't need the MITB contract to do so, and this was certainly the wrong call in a match with several better options to win.

#1 Got it right: Mysterio wins the Grand Slam, though things are far from over

Joe wasted little time in taking revenge on the new United States Champion.
Joe wasted little time in taking revenge on the new United States Champion.

At Money in the Bank, Rey Mysterio recovered from the nightmare of WrestleMania 35, when he dethroned Samoa Joe as United States Champion.

In a rare sight, Joe was busted open, and though too much blood being too common is a bad thing (in my opinion), it is always interesting to see the fluid on very rare occasion.

As US Champion, Mysterio has now captured the Grand Slam, but this feud is far from over.

Whilst celebrating post-match, Rey was assaulted by the former champion, who attacked Mysterio in front of his son Dominick. This feud has been highly engaging so far and easily one of the better things on TV.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of these two in the future.
