3 things WWE got right on this week's RAW and 2 they got wrong (January 14th, 2019)

It's another Tuesday morning, which means the WWE Universe have had another week of Monday Night RAW.

Follow Sportskeeda for the latest WWE news, rumors and all other wrestling news.

With the McMahon family once again running the show, the first family of wrestling has been hoping to provide more exciting content, after a slump in 2018.

As we barrel forwards toward the Royal Rumble pay per view, every Superstar of the Red brand is hoping to build momentum for the Rumble matches, which if they win, will guarantee them a championship match this April, at WrestleMania 35.

But before WrestleMania, the men and women of Monday Night RAW needed to make it through last night's show, which had plenty of positives about the show, as well as a couple of negatives.

Here are three things WWE got right on the latest episode of Monday Night RAW, as well as two things they got wrong.

#3 Got it right: Lashley finally claims gold

The Destroyer celebrates after winning his first Intercontinental Championship on this week's RAW
The Destroyer celebrates after winning his first Intercontinental Championship on this week's RAW

The return of Bobby Lashley last year has been nothing short of dominant, with the former ECW Champion being a main player on RAW as either a heel or a face.

But as his 2018 return moved forwards, fans couldn't help but notice that Lashley, for all his success, wasn't winning any championships.

This all changed this week on RAW, wherein an exciting triple threat match, Lashley captured the Intercontinental Championship for the first time in his career, dethroning Dean Ambrose in a match that also featured Seth Rollins.

Joining a lineage that includes Pat Patterson, Shawn Michaels, Triple H, The Rock, Edge and others, the Destroyer surely has the momentum as he enters the 30-man Rumble match in less than two weeks.

#2 Got it wrong: The Boss and The Rowdy One

Rousey and Banks had very little chemistry on the mic together
Rousey and Banks had very little chemistry on the mic together

At the Royal Rumble, Sasha Banks has her chance to claim her fifth RAW Women's Championship, when she takes on 'Rowdy' Ronda Rousey.

Before the Rumble pay per view though, the pair teamed this week to face Nia Jax and Tamina Snuka

Whilst the pair were successful, they had little chemistry together, with Rousey's promo skills still needing development.

A former UFC Champion, Rousey is at her best as the Baddest Woman On The Planet, who should speak occasionally and let her fists do the talking.

Whilst I'm sure their match will be very impressive, few people (if any) expect Sasha to win, and whilst it's good that the Boss is at least getting a shot at the RAW Women's Championship, this match will be very interesting to see.

#2 Got it Right: Balor finally gets his due

Balor will get a chance to regain the Universal Championship against Brock Lesnar
Balor will get a chance to regain the Universal Championship against Brock Lesnar

Finn Balor will finally get his shot at the Universal Champion Brock Lesnar when the two face off at the Royal Rumble.

Whilst the situation may have been very convoluted, the truth is that Balor needed a high-profile match to remain relevant in the eyes of the WWE Universe.

Just last week, Balor appeared at NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool, and it was clear to see how fans once saw him in NXT, and how they have seen him now on RAW.

Whilst I don't expect the Demon to topple the Beast Incarnate, especially so close to WrestleMania, a match between Balor and Lesnar is still nothing short of a dream match to many fans.

Expect these two to have an epic war at the Royal Rumble, though at a certain someone's expense...

#1 Got it wrong: Strowman left high and dry

Fans often criticized Roman Reigns for being too heavily pushed, but despite having multiple shots at the Universal Championship, Strowman seems to have avoided those same critics.

This week though, as he was prepping for his fifth title match against the Beast, Strowman's anger got the better of him, leaving a furious Mr. McMahon no choice but to strip the Monster Among Men of his Rumble title match against Lesnar.

Whilst I've previously written that I'm pleased to see Balor get his due, it does seem rather baffling why the WWE would make the Strowman-Lesnar match (which Strowman had to go through several hoops just to get) in the first place.

Whilst I'm thrilled for the Irishman, I can't help but feel for Strowman, who is seemingly losing his push with each passing week.

#1 Got it right: A night of debuts

NXT's Nikki Cross made a great impression in her first match on RAW
NXT's Nikki Cross made a great impression in her first match on RAW

The WWE has often relied on part-time, former Superstars to help bring fans in, with Goldberg, Triple H, John Cena, Brock Lesnar and the Undertaker all having main event matches in 2018.

But the WWE still are very much building the stars of tomorrow in their NXT brand and had one of them debut this week.

After years impressing in NXT, Nikki Cross finally made it to RAW, impressing in her first victory on the show.

But Cross' big debut wasn't the only addition to the Women's division, as the Women's Tag Team Championships were FINALLY revealed, after being hinted at for seemingly a year.

It's only a matter of time before we see which two women will hold these titles aloft as the first of this generation of Women's Tag Team Champions.
