4 Reasons Gunther should challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship

The Ring General is no longer champion.
Gunther is the former Intercontinental Champion

Gunther returned to WWE RAW tonight and made his way to the ring alongside his Imperium stablemates. He said he would not complain about losing the title to Sami Zayn at WrestleMania but instead noted that he will forever be known as the greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time. Gunther discussed his future and said he could go after whatever title he wanted.

The RAW star was the first to announce that he will compete in the King of the Ring tournament next month. Ludwig Kaiser unleashed a brutal attack on Giovanni Vinci tonight, and the former Intercontinental Champion appeared proud of it.

Listed below are four reasons Gunther should challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship:

#4. Gunther should challenge Cody Rhodes to prove himself in WWE

Gunther has proven to be the greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time but still has room to test himself. He hasn't battled some of the major stars in the promotion due to his historic title reign.

The 36-year-old may decide that the time is right to challenge for a major title and may have Cody Rhodes as his target. The leader of Imperium could be drafted to SmackDown this Friday night and go after Rhodes following his title defense at Backlash.

Cody Rhodes will be defending his title against AJ Styles next month at the Premium Live Event in France.

#3. Cody Rhodes could be vulnerable

Cody Rhodes competed in both nights of WrestleMania XL and hasn't slowed down his WWE Live Event schedule since becoming champion. Roman Reigns took plenty of time to recover between title defenses, which may have led to a longer reign for The Tribal Chief.

The American Nightmare will face one of the best wrestlers in the world, AJ Styles, at WWE Backlash. If Rhodes emerges victorious, he may not be 100% for weeks following the match.

Gunther could attack The American Nightmare at Backlash immediately after the match to weaken the champion some more ahead of their rivalry.

#2. Gunther may want to main event WWE WrestleMania

Gunther has rarely been in the main event despite being one of the greatest champions wrestling fans have ever seen. He could have paid attention to the card at WrestleMania and noted that the World Heavyweight Championship match kicked off Night Two.

The Ring General could strategically target Cody Rhodes because he holds the most prized title in the company. If Gunther is able to capture the title from Rhodes, there is a good chance he will be in the main event of WrestleMania 41.

#1. Cody Rhodes has eliminated Gunther from the past two Men's Royal Rumble matches

Cody Rhodes has won the past two Royal Rumble matches to punch his ticket to 'Mania. He came up short at WrestleMania 39 in Los Angeles but finally finished his story and dethroned Roman Reigns at WrestleMania XL.

Gunther likely resents Cody Rhodes for eliminating him in the past two Men's Royal Rumble matches. The WWE RAW star had an impressive showing in both matches, but Rhodes emerged victorious.

The former Intercontinental Champion could mention that he has been waiting for revenge and vow to take the Undisputed WWE Championship from him.
