4 reasons why Drew McIntyre should fight John Cena at WrestleMania 35

On the latest edition of Monday Night Raw, John Cena made an appearance and announced he would be one of the entrants at the Royal Rumble match. During the same segment, we had Drew McIntyre making an appearance and staking his claim in the Royal Rumble match, and also reminding everyone he made Kurt Angle tap out to his own Ankle-lock.

He even got into a bit of tussle with John Cena, and at one time said John was the greatest of all time, but Drew can easily beat him.

For all the wrestling purists, it did set some tongues wagging. Was that a sign of things to come? With the Championship picture almost sealed in favour of Seth Rollins for the Universal title, could we be looking at a feud between the Scottish Psychopath and John Cena?

If you think about it, this could be a great precursor of things to come, as John could eliminate Drew in the Rumble, leading to a retaliation by McIntyre, and a subsequent feud.

With Drew seemingly out of the title picture and still in limbo over a potential match at WrestleMania, we look at why a collision between Drew and John Cena at WrestleMania would actually make sense.

#1 Seth Rollins looks set to face Brock Lesnar for the championship

The writing is almost on the wall if we talk about the championship match at WrestleMania 35. It looks highly likely that Seth Rollins is the guy who would go up against Brock Lesnar (yes Braun would lose yet again to Brock at Royal Rumble) for the Universal title at WrestleMania 35.

Which leaves Drew without a match at WrestleMania 35. Drew could go up against Braun, but that is something that can always be arranged later, WrestleMania is all about creating moments, and what bigger moment could there be for a rising star like Drew McIntyre than to go up against one of the biggest stars WWE has ever produced?

#2 Drew has proven to be a potential superstar

He really is the complete package

If anyone had any doubts about Drew McIntyre's capability, then those got addressed quite handsomely by the Scottish Psychopath in the last year. He has shown he can be good on the mic, he has an amazing presence both in the ring and out of it, and more than that - he's a damn good performer in the ring.

Drew is one guy that ticks all the boxes, and no one would deem it unfair if he gets a shot at the main event. Drew was even thought of as one of the leading contenders to win the Royal Rumble (who knows, there might still be a late change of plans).

But since he won't be in the championship picture (it seems like that for now), it is better to bring him into the spotlight against Cena, and let him get used to it.

#3 A match against John would put Drew over big time

This is going to be McIntyre's first WrestleMania ever since his return. By December he was already looked at by many to be the guy who would go on to be the Universal Champion at WrestleMania 35, but the McIntyre hype train has derailed a bit in recent times, and a match with John Cena would be a first proper feud Drew will be part of (not sure if we could call the feud between Drew and Dolph a proper one).

The feud would cover all the bases, and test Drew in the way no other feud could, because in a match against John Cena, it's not only about the match, it's also about the promos before that.

Arguably John Cena did lose the match against Roman Reigns, but he had already accomplished whatever he needed to before the bell had even rung on the match between the two.

This Feud could be the spectacle and the boost Drew needs to propel his standing on the roster.

#4 WWE needs a Big Match from John Cena after last year's debacle

Last year's feud with the Undertaker didn't do any good for either of the wrestlers
Last year's feud with the Undertaker didn't do any good for either of the wrestlers

John Cena had a one-sided feud with Undertaker last year, and he kept calling out the Deadman each week, but never got a reply from the Undertaker, even until his supposed match, which was nothing but a squash match, and did nothing positive for either of the legends.

WWE could have done so much more with the feud, but chose not to hype it up for some reason.

WWE is arguably in bad shape right now, especially with AEW racking in new superstar after new superstar, and WWE itself suffering from a severe fall in ratings, with Raw recording all-time lows on a weekly basis.

They can't just sit on their laurels, and need to use all their resources to the utmost, and it is high time they used John Cena properly, because love him or hate him, he does a great job at eliciting a reaction from the crowd.
