Since AJ Styles will be challenging for the Universal Championship at Money in the Bank, that means that he won't be in the actual ladder match. There are rumors circulating that WWE has some huge plans for whoever picks up the Money in the Bank contract this year after the two previous winners were unsuccessful in their quest for gold.

McIntyre may not be ready for the Universal Championship right now, but if he holds the contract for a few months just like Seth Rollins back in 2015, then it's likely that he will be prepared to make the step up to World Champion by 2020.

Money in the Bank contracts also work better for heel superstars since they call for the element of surprise, so McIntyre is the perfect heel star in that ladder match to pick up the contract.
