The Gold Standard is no stranger to the Star-Spangled title, as he captured the title at the Great American Bash 2008 event, defeating a pre-woken Matt Hardy.
Benjamin was initially supposed to return to the company in 2016, though a rotator cuff injury kept him away for over a year.
In addition, Benjamin revealed that he never signed a contract when the injury occurred, and he was technically a free agent
Since returning in August 2017, he has teamed with Chad Gable, before taking some leave to nurse some injuries.
Capturing the US Title could help the Gold Standard live up to his moniker, and could lead to some great feuds for a superstar who has been arguably misused since his return last year.
