Akeem the African Dream, formerly known as the One Man Gang, participated in the 1989 Royal Rumble and finished 2nd to Big John Studd, a year after he would finish second in the first Royal Rumble to 'Hacksaw' Jim Duggan.

Akeem would be the first person have back to back second places finishes in the Royal Rumble match something that only Triple H, in 2008 and 2009, and Roman Reigns, 2017 and 2018, have managed to replicate.

Coming in as entry 23, the newly dubbed Akeem eliminated WWE Champion Hulk Hogan and Rick Martel. After lasting 18 minutes and 36 seconds, he would be dumped out by Big John Studd to finish seconds.

In the 1990 Royal Rumble, Akeem would fail to back up his previous two performances and would be eliminated after only 2 and a half minutes in the ring. This would be his last Royal Rumble with the company. He last wrestled for the WWE in the Gimmick Battle Royal at WrestleMania X7, once again wrestling under his One Man Gang moniker.
