5 Botches you probably missed at WrestleMania 36

Even when WrestleMania was pre-recorded, there were still a number of botches
Even when WrestleMania was pre-recorded, there were still a number of botches

WrestleMania 36 took place over two nights and stole the weekend, at a time when the world needed some form of escapism, Vince McMahon was able to pull it out of the bag and put on another fantastic show. Whilst The Performance Center was the only location deemed safe for the superstars to perform in, given the current COVID-19 pandemic, the likes of Undertaker, AJ Styles, The Fiend, and John Cena were still able to excel and put on historic matches from different locations.

WrestleMania 36 will go down in history for several reasons, but even though the show was pre-taped, there were several interesting botches that WWE was unable to cover up.

#5. JBL's audio

JBL returned to commentary last night at WrestleMania alongside Michael Cole and called the action for the SmackDown matches, but in the opening exchanges of the show which included the NXT Women's Championship match between Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair and Aleister Black vs Bobby Lashley, JBL was quite hard to hear.

The 2020 WWE Hall of Famer was calling the action but there were only snippets of what he was saying that was audible and many of the WWE Universe picked up on it. Despite the show being pre-recorded, the company was not able to fix the issues in post-production and instead allowed the show to go ahead with JBL's mic not working.

Luckily, the issue seemed to fix itself later in the show and JBL could then be heard properly when he began announcing the SmackDown Women's Championship match. The match was won by Bayley after a tease from the Role Model and her long-time friend Sasha Banks that made it seem as though there could have been a turn.

#4. Alexa Bliss' finisher

The Women's Tag Team Championship match kicked off night one of WrestleMania 36 and saw Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross become two-time Champions when they were able to defeat The Kabuki Warriors.

Interestingly, it was Asuka and Kairi Sane who originally dethroned Alexa and Nikki a number of months ago to become Tag Team Champions for the first time. In recent weeks it appeared that Bliss had Asuka's number and was even able to pin her on SmackDown a few weeks ago which allowed the match to be officially announced.

Whilst it was an impressive opening match between the four women, there were a number of awkward moments throughout and Alexa Bliss was able to pick up the victory for her team with a botched version of Twisted Bliss.

Instead of connecting with Kairi Sane's mid-section which is where the move is supposed to hit Bliss' opponents, Bliss actually connected with Sane's leg which took out all of the impact of the move but still allowed Bliss and Cross to pick up the win.

#3. Charlotte's spear

Charlotte and Rhea Ripley opened night two of WrestleMania 36 weekend in a match that saw Charlotte Flair become just the second woman to lift the NXT Women's Champion for a second time.

Flair forced Ripley to tap out to the Figure 8 after she worked her leg throughout the match and made it clear that it was the limb that she wanted to target in order to lock in her famous finisher.

Charlotte is seen as one of the greatest female wrestlers of all time, but that doesn't mean that she doesn't still make mistakes in the ring. This was proved this past weekend at WrestleMania when she looked to deliver a spear to Rhea Ripley and it had no momentum on it at all.

Goldberg is the master of the spear and since the WWE Universe had seen spears from him and Edge in the weeks leading up to WrestleMania, it was hard not to notice that Charlotte's spear wasn't on the same level as some of the best wrestlers in the company.

#2. Ladder match botches

The only ladder match on the WrestleMania card saw John Morrison forced to defend the SmackDown Tag Team Championships alone since The Miz was struck down by illness in the days leading up to the show.

WrestleMania saw John Morrison take on Jimmy Uso and Kofi Kingston in a triple threat ladder match for the titles and it was quite obvious that all three men had become accustomed to working as part of a team.

There were a lot of awkward moments throughout the match that wasn't expected from stars who have been in this kind of match before, but this match could have originally been planned out as a team effort so it could have been the late change that caused the three stars some issues.

One of the main points came in the closing stages of the match since the finish looked so awkward and all three men slowed down completely in order to ensure that the end of the match went over correctly, the issue here was that it wasn't very smooth at all.

#1. Was Asuka knocked out?

Asuka and Kairi Sane lost the Women's Tag Team Championships at WrestleMania on Saturday night, but it appears that Asuka could have been injured as part of the match as well. The Empress of Tomorrow wasn't directly involved in the finish, but she was involved in a pin attempt earlier in the match when she was wrestling Nikki Cross.

The former NXT star hit her usual spinning neck breaker and was looking for the win, but because this is Cross' usual finisher and WWE didn't want to make it look weak, Kairi Sane delivered an elbow from the top rope to break up the count but her timing also may have been off.

Many members of the WWE Universe noticed that Asuka didn't kick out when she realized that Sane may not make it in time to break up the count. The edit that WWE had put in just proves that it would have been a three count if the referee had continued to count as well, but it's unknown which star is actually at fault.
