5 Dream matches for Johnny Gargano on the main roster

This past week on Raw, Triple H announced, much to the surprise of the WWE Universe, that NXT Champion, Tommaso Ciampa, North American Champion, Johnny Gargano, Aleister Black, and Ricochet were all going to be making their main roster debuts.

The four men all made an instant impact and then went on to wrestle 24 hours later on Tuesday's edition of SmackDown Live as well.

The only issue with this situation is that the WWE failed to make it clear whether or not these four men were now going to be permanent members of the WWE roster, and if so, what would happen to their ongoing NXT storylines.

Regardless of whether this move is permanent, or whether we have to wait until after WrestleMania, it is pretty clear, given the fact that the WWE booked all four men to win on consecutive nights, that they will soon be permanent fixtures on Raw or SmackDown.

This raises plenty of interesting opportunities, with their being plenty of potentially exciting matches for the four men to compete in.

With that in mind, let's take a look at five dream matches for one of those four men, Johnny Gargano.

#5 Brock Lesnar

Brock Lesnar may seem like an odd choice for a dream match with Johnny Gargano, but for the sake of variety, it would be fascinating to see the two men square off for a number of reasons.

While there are plenty of more technically talented performers available to face Gargano in the WWE, Lesnar has shown that, when he actually wants to put on a great match, he is more than capable.

Lesnar's chemistry with the likes of CM Punk, AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan has produced some of the best PPV matches in recent years, and there is nothing to suggest that Gargano couldn't get a similar performance out of The Beast Incarnate.

#4 Buddy Murphy

One thing that has concerned fans for some time is the idea that if the WWE is to call up Gargano to the main roster, Vince McMahon may not see in him what everyone else does and he may end up relegated to 205 Live.

Based off this week's events, that no longer looks likely, but for the sake of this article, it is worth noting that there is one potential dream-match we could get out of that scenario.

When listing WWE's most consistent performers over the last 12 months, there are few who could hold a candle to Johnny Gargano and Buddy Murphy, the two men have put on exceptional matches with whoever they have stepped in the ring against, and there is little to no doubt that they could put something special together if they were paired up against one another.

#3 Kevin Owens

Johnny Gargano may currently be working as a heel on the NXT roster, but given his natural likeability and underdog stature, it will only be a matter of time before the WWE decides to turn him face once again.

When that does happen, Kevin Owens would make the perfect heel antagonist in his storyline.

There are plenty of obvious parallels between the relationships of Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens, and Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano, and mixing those stories up a little bit could prove to be a lot of fun.

Owens excels as the bullying heel in that kind of feud, while Gargano has shown time and time again that he is more than capable of establishing himself as the ultimate underdog in these kinds of fights.

#2 AJ Styles

No list of dream matches would be complete without the inclusion of former WWE Champion, AJ Styles.

Styles and Gargano are both widely recognized as two of the greatest and most consistent performers on the planet today, and the WWE would be crazy not to book them into some sort of feud with one another.

The two men have, in fact, met before, but they have never wrestled one another in any sort of major promotion.

These two performers would no doubt steal whatever show the WWE decided to put them on, and an extended program, one potentially featuring Tommaso Ciampa, could turn out to be exactly what Gargano needs to establish himself as a top guy on the WWE main roster.

#1 Daniel Bryan

Who else did you expect to be at number one?

Comparisons have been drawn between Johnny Gargano and Daniel Bryan throughout both men's careers, and with Gargano now potentially stepping up to the main roster, a one on one encounter between the two men should be a priority.

If Gargano is going to feud with Bryan though, the WWE would be wise to turn Johnny Wrestling face one again and book this as some sort of underdog passing of the torch moment.

Gargano may still get his crowning moment down in NXT, but given the sudden nature of this week's call-ups, it looks increasingly unlikely that we will see Gargano holding the NXT Championship above his head. If that is the case, then the WWE should attempt to get Gargano over as the biggest face on the main roster and give him his crowning moment there instead.
