5 Dream WWE Matches for Kurt Angle in 2019

Kurt Angle is a WWE Hall of Famer.

On April 3rd, 2017, we saw the return of Kurt Angle in a WWE ring on Raw for the first time in 11 years at that point. Angle was appointed as the new GM of Raw by Vince McMahon, and ever since his return, he has been occasionally wrestling in the ring against many superstars such as Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre.

Despite the fact that Angle is no longer the GM of Raw, there is still a lot of potentials for him to be used in many different ways. The Olympic Gold Medallist is clearly reaching the end of his career, but it doesn't seem as if Angle is going to retire in the ring anytime soon as there still seems to be something left in the tank.

Nevertheless, here are 5 dream matches that Angle could have in 2019.

#5 Dean Ambrose

Angle has previously teamed up with Ambrose before in the past.
Angle has previously teamed up with Ambrose before in the past.

Angle and Ambrose both have brief history from when Angle was Roman Reigns' replacement to team up with The Shield to face The Bar, The Miz and Braun Strowman at TLC 2017. Every time we have seen these two together on Raw, it's clear that they have the utmost respect for each other.

However, with Ambrose now competing as a heel superstar, it would be great to see him go one on one with The Olympic Gold Medallist. With Angle's career slowly coming to an end, The Moral Compass of the WWE would be a great option to goad Angle about his future as an in-ring competitor.

Ambrose could constantly state that Angle is a shadow of his former self and that he doesn't have what it takes to hang with superstars like him. After all, we saw Angle get destroyed by Drew McIntyre on Raw in November, 5th 2018 which would prove Ambrose's point of Angle not being what he used to be.

Angle could also point out the errors in Ambrose's recent ways after he had turned on The Shield on a night that was so significant for them after Roman Reigns had announced that he had leukaemia. There is no doubt that these two would have fantastic segments with their promos.

#4 Brock Lesnar

Lesnar and Angle have plenty of history together.
Lesnar and Angle have plenty of history together.

There is nobody in the WWE right now who has more history with Kurt Angle than The Beast himself. The history between these two men goes all the way back to 2003, and it all began when Lesnar helped Angle gain his third WWE Championship gold as Angle had defeated The Big Show at Armageddon 2002. We then saw the two superstars have a rivalry after Lesnar had won the 2003 Royal Rumble match to challenge Angle for the WWE title at WrestleMania XIX, in a match that Angle lost.

With Angle being written off due to injury, Lesnar and Angle then went onto team up as they had many memorable moments together after Angle returned as a babyface to win the WWE Championship for a fourth time against Lesnar and Big Show at Vengeance 2003. However, their partnership ended up being a ruse as Lesnar had been worked on a plot with Vince McMahon to take Angle down.

This then led to Angle and Lesnar having many matches that were simply elite, such as their Iron Man match on the September, 18th 2003 edition of SmackDown.

There is no denying that Brock Lesnar is a very brutal superstar when it comes to the ring as he likes to wrestle stiffly. However, it's clear that Lesnar and Angle are very close in real life so there is no doubt that Lesnar would work a more soft style against Angle if required. If these two men were to wrestle in a WWE ring again, it would definitely be a nostalgic moment.

#3 Chad Gable

Should Gable have been chosen to be Angle's son?
Should Gable have been chosen to be Angle's son?

Chad Gable would make an intriguing opponent for Kurt Angle due to the fact that they are so similar. Both men have competed in the Olympics before, and as Jonathan Coachman had stated, "When I look at Chad Gable, I see a young Kurt Angle" which couldn't be more of an accurate statement.

Gable's former tag team partner in Jason Jordan was chosen to be Angle's kayfabe son, and it was a storyline that was rumoured to have led to a singles match between Jordan and Angle. We saw that Jordan was brewing to be more spoiled and demanding, but this storyline came to a halt when Jordan suffered a gruelling injury.

Some people say that Gable should've been the superstar chosen to be Angle's son, but nevertheless, there is no doubt that these two would be able to put on a decent match. Angle would be the perfect option to put over a rising superstar like Gable.

Gable currently holds one half of the Raw Tag Team title along with Bobby Roode, but with a split and a potential feud between Roode and Gable being rumoured, maybe a bout with Angle could happen in the near future? If this dream was ever to turn into a reality, the most effective way for the two men to wrestle would be with Gable as a heel.

We've seen him as a heel in the past in a tag team with Shelton Benjamin so Gable can indeed pull it off, and he could display his jealousy for how Jason Jordan was revealed to be Angle's son and how Jordan got all the opportunities that he didn't. This could even lead to a potential return for Jordan, but it is unknown if Jordan will ever be able to compete in a WWE ring again due to the severity of his injuries.

#2 Seth Rollins

Rollins and Angle were rumoured to be having a match at Wrestlemania 34.
Rollins and Angle were rumoured to be having a match at Wrestlemania 34.

A possible match between Seth Rollins and Kurt Angle was rumoured to occur two years ago in 2017 as we had witnessed both men in the trailer of the WWE 2K18 video game. We saw Rollins enter a warehouse which was meant to represent WWE HQ, before vandalising many items that were very essential in the pasts of former WWE superstars and legends.

Following that, we then saw Angle enter that same warehouse that had been destroyed by Rollins before finding his boots amongst all of the debris.

Despite that commercial just being a trailer for a video game, in the previous year, we had Goldberg appear on the trailer for WWE 2K17 with the tagline of "Fantasy Warfare Just Got Real" as that had led to a real-life in-ring return from Goldberg as he entered a rivalry with Brock Lesnar. This was further speculation that fuelled the WWE Universe's desire to see Angle and Rollins face each other in the ring.

The two men have crossed paths many times on Raw already, but they have always been on the same page whether it's as a team, or Angle backing Rollins due to his former position as GM of Raw. If they were to ever compete against each other, it would definitely be a match based on the respect that they have for each other, and there's no denying that Angle would put Rollins over as Rollins is clearly the biggest babyface on the Raw brand today.

#1 Daniel Bryan

Angle taking on Bryan is a match that fans have been wanting to see for a long time.
Angle taking on Bryan is a match that fans have been wanting to see for a long time.

And last but definitely not least, we have none other than "The New Daniel Bryan" coming in at #1 as the best possible option to take on Angle.

We have never seen Bryan and Angle compete in a WWE ring before, and the truth of the matter is, it has been a dream match that the wrestling fans have wanted to see for a very long time. Two of the greatest technical wrestlers in their prime going at it would create such a huge moment for the WWE.

With Bryan being a heel, there wouldn't be a better time-frame than for this match to happen in 2019. Bryan's new character of wanting to protect the environment from the fans is definitely a fantastic and refreshing change from his babyface character, and Angle could be the perfect foil for Bryan due to Angle's personal problems. Bryan could use Angle's personal problems against him to prove his point of Angle being bad for the environment, the world, and the people.

Due to the fact that Bryan had returned to a WWE ring at WrestleMania 34 after years of not being medically cleared, there wouldn't be a superstar in the WWE that could work a safer style with Angle than Bryan himself. A match pitting Angle and Bryan wouldn't be a high flying, risk-taking match because it wouldn't need to be.

This would be a classic technical wrestling match with the question of who is the better wrestler out of the two. Both men are clearly technical wizards, and Bryan could also be the superstar that retires Angle as it would get Bryan over as a heel in such a huge way.

In order for this to happen, Angle would have to be drafted to SmackDown, but that would be a very big moment as Angle has previously been the face of SmackDown before in the past. On the other hand, Bryan could even be drafted to Raw, but Bryan seems to fit better on Smackdown Live than he would on Raw. Angle coming to Tuesday nights to finally take on Bryan for a marquee PPV match in 2019 would definitely be a dream come true.
