WWE could make some last-minute changes to WrestleMania Backlash

WWE WrestleMania Backlash will commence this Sunday as the first pay-per-view event following the two-night WrestleMania extravaganza. Superstars from Monday Night RAW and SmackDown will collide in high-stakes bouts as they look to prevail over their opponents.

The build-up to WrestleMania Backlash has been pretty average, with six matches currently confirmed for the show, including five title bouts.

As the clock ticks down to the start of the event, Vince McMahon and company could come up with new plans for the show at short notice. Here are five last-minute changes WWE could make at WrestleMania Backlash.

#5 A new match is added to WWE WrestleMania Backlash

This Sunday, the WWE Championship, SmackDown Women's Championship, RAW Women's Championship, SmackDown Tag Team Championship and the Universal Title will be on the line. But as of this writing, the remaining titles on the main roster aren't currently scheduled to be defended at the event, which includes the Intercontinental, United States and the RAW and Women's Tag Team Championships.

At WrestleMania Backlash, WWE could add another match onto the card that might feature one of these titles. Sheamus could defend the US Championship against a long list of talented stars while Apollo Crews could put his gold on the line against Big E or Sami Zayn.

AJ Styles and Omos could have a rematch with The New Day for the RAW Tag Team Championship while Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax could defend the tag titles against Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke or Tamina and Natalya.

WWE also needs to have a match on the kickoff show, so it would make sense for the company to add one more match to the WrestleMania Backlash card. We could also see other top stars such as Randy Orton and Seth Rollins competing on the show.

#4 Charlotte Flair captures the RAW Women's Championship at WrestleMania Backlash

At WrestleMania Backlash, Charlotte Flair will take on Asuka and Rhea Ripley in a triple threat match for the RAW Women's Championship, and it's possible that she could walk out with the title in her possession.

The Queen scored victories over both Ripley and The Empress of Tomorrow in the past, which gives her the credibility and advantage to defeat either star again. Since the match will be contested under no disqualifications, there won't be any limits for Flair to go on her quest to become a women's champion again.

After missing WrestleMania 37, she will want to win back what she thinks is rightfully hers.

WWE shocked fans when Charlotte Flair ended Asuka's streak at WrestleMania 34 and when she defeated Rhea Ripley to win the NXT Women's Championship at 'Mania 36. The same could happen at WrestleMania Backlash this Sunday. Monday Night RAW needs a big star to lead its women's division, and The Queen fits that mold perfectly.

#3 The Fiend makes his presence known at WrestleMania Backlash

Will WrestleMania Backlash be his time?

The Fiend recently rose from the ashes after being burnt alive by Randy Orton at WWE TLC 2020. At WrestleMania 37, he was unsuccessful in his clash against The Viper due to a distraction caused by his former ally, Alexa Bliss.

The Fiend hasn't been seen since, although Bray Wyatt did make some appearances on the Firefly Fun House in his natural form. The Fiend made his long-awaited return not so long ago, so it wouldn't really make sense for him to go missing in action again this soon.

Alexa Bliss will probably show up at WrestleMania Backlash with Lilly, as we saw on RAW. This means The Fiend could make his presence known at the pay-per-view by showing up to confront Bliss or even better, an intergender match could be set up between the two stars on the show. WWE could book a cinematic match at WrestleMania Backlash, which would be more fitting for their diabolical characters.

If Alexa Bliss loses the match, she could also lose all her powers which would compel her to return to back to normal. Bliss is a big star, and it's unlikely that this whole thing will go on for much longer, especially since it's not very popular with the fans. Alexa Bliss could then return to the title picture where she belongs.

#2 Drew McIntyre reclaims the WWE Championship at WrestleMania Backlash

Drew McIntyre has one last opportunity to win back the WWE Championship at WrestleMania Backlash when he faces 'The Almighty' Bobby Lashley and 'The Monster Among Men' Braun Strowman in a triple threat match.

The Scottish Warrior failed at WrestleMania 37, and he might not have another chance at the title if he isn't successful at WrestleMania Backlash. The odds are much tougher this time since it's a triple threat match, but he can use it to his advantage if he implements the right strategy.

Drew McIntyre was a babyface during his entire WWE Championship reign, but perhaps it's time for him to have a run with the title as a heel. During an interview, he teased a potential heel turn by stating:

"You mentioned the pressure, and some people have not been able to handle it in the past that being champion, all the eyeballs on you, and all the responsibility is on you. Everything I've been through prepared me for everything. Nothing gets my eye off the prize. I've done this for a very long time. I know how to do my job. I do it to the best of my ability. If the fans are digging it, that’s cool. If they don't like it, that's cool, too. Eventually, big Drew's going to have a big heel turn. I can’t wait for it," said Drew McIntyre.

If McIntyre manages to reclaim the WWE Championship at WrestleMania Backlash, there won't be that many heels for him to feud with since he's a face. As a bad guy though, he'll be able to feud with the babyfaces which means he'll have fresh opponents and new rivalries on RAW.

#1 Jimmy Uso turns on Roman Reigns at WrestleMania Backlash

'The Tribal Chief' Roman Reigns will put his Universal Championship on the line for the first time ever against Cesaro at WrestleMania Backlash. After years of hard work, The Swiss Superman is finally getting the push he and the fans have been waiting for.

Reigns had a feud with his cousin Jey Uso a couple of months ago, which they managed to resolve. Jey's twin brother Jimmy Uso, however, might not be so forgiving. The former WWE Tag Team Champion made his return to SmackDown last week and it looks like he could also join forces with Roman Reigns.

This could, however, end up as an elaborate plan by Jimmy to get retribution on Roman Reigns. The Tribal Chief made him watch his twin brother suffer and get beat up at Clash of Champions. The Universal Champion also locked Jimmy in a submission hold which forced Jey to say 'I Quit' at Hell in a Cell.

As such, it might be difficult for Jimmy to fall in line so easily after all of that. At WrestleMania Backlash, Jimmy Uso might turn on his cousin Roman Reigns by attacking him during his match. This would then cause a stand-off between both Usos.

Jimmy Uso would then proceed to leave the ring while Jey remains behind with Reigns. Roman Reigns would retain his title and possibly start a feud with Jimmy Uso after WrestleMania Backlash.
