The unfortunate reality is that the Ric Flair-Randy Savage feud in 1992 didn't draw as well as WWE had hoped at the time. It was a heated feud heading into WrestleMania VIII, with Ric Flair claiming that Miss Elizabeth had been with him before Savage, going as far as to doctor photos.
Their match itself was quite good, but similar to Batista and Chris Jericho, there was blading that happened that infuriated McMahon. Mind you, this was when WWF was still PG, and five years away before they started pushing the envelope.
Ric Flair's face was covered in crimson red, and after the match, he was fined a lot of money and both he and Savage were blasted for disobeying the rules.
Ironically, Bret Hart had bladed in his match with Roddy Piper that same day, but he managed to convince McMahon that it was an accident.
