5 possible opponents for WWE's King Baron Corbin

Corbin's win could be the start of his quest to become WWE Champion

WWE has a new King, and his name is Baron Corbin. After toppling stars like The Miz, Cedric Alexander, Samoa Joe, and Ricochet, Corbin defeated Chad Gable on last night's RAW to capture the prestigious crown.

As King of the Ring, Corbin joins an elite group that includes stars like Stone Cold Steve Austin, Macho Man Randy Savage, Triple H, and Brock Lesnar. But there's an adage that says - "heavy is the head that wears the crown", therefore Corbin will have plenty of people ready to rebel against the King.

Here are five possible opponents for the 2019 WWE King of the Ring, Baron Corbin.

#5: WWE Champion Kofi Kingston

At WWE Clash of Champions, Kofi Kingston was able to retain his WWE Championship against Randy Orton in what may be the final match between the pair. After drawing against the Viper at SummerSlam, Kingston proved he's not the same man Orton decimated a decade ago. If the feud is indeed over, Kingston will be on the hunt for his next challenger.

Enter King Baron Corbin. Despite being a RAW Superstar, it's very easy to imagine the King moved to the blue brand when the WWE draft occurs next month. Though Corbin competed for the Universal title earlier this year, having him as the top heel on SmackDown Live could do wonders for his career. Kofi's reign is soon to enter its sixth month, and it may be time for a change.

With the blue brand moving to FOX Sports 1 next month, there could be several changes made to SmackDown when it launches on October 4. One of those changes could be King Corbin becoming the next WWE Champion.

#4: Chad Gable

The man Baron Corbin defeated in the finals of the 2019 King of the Ring tournament, Chad Gable, was considered a dark horse in the tournament.

Gable defeated his former tag team partner Shelton Benjamin in the first round, picked up a huge win over Andrade in the second round, and was able to defeat Shane McMahon in the semi-finals before losing to the former RAW General Manager.

Getting so close and doing all that for nothing must no doubt sting for the former Team USA Olympian, and a feud between Gable and Corbin could be imminent. Though the pair are on different brands, the Wild Card rule should allow this feud to take place until the upcoming draft next month, which could see the pair end up on the same brand.

Based on this week's match, Gable and Corbin certainly have some chemistry in the ring, and a feud between the pair could produce some great matches and add to the mean streak of the new King.

#3: John Cena

Fans may remember that Cena once cost Corbin his Money in the Bank cash-in

John Cena's WWE career is the stuff of legend. Debuting in 2002, Cena would win his first title, the United States Championship, two years later at WrestleMania 20, and at WrestleMania 21 would win the first of 16 World Championships.

Cena is also a tag team champion, a two-time Royal Rumble winner, and considered one of the biggest Superstars of all time. One thing John hasn't accomplished is being King of the Ring.

That chink in his armor could be the spark of a big feud between Cena and Corbin, as it may start with the simplest of lines. In a promo, the King could casually mention doing something Cena never did, and Cena could retort on social media. This could kick off an entertaining feud, as well as give the Constable a big push if he goes on to defeat Big Match John.

The pair do have a history, as it was Cena who cost Corbin his Money in the Bank cash-in back in 2017, and one could argue that Corbin would have been a World Champion by now if not for the intervention of Big Match John.

#2: Kevin Owens

Kevin Owens may currently be fired from WWE, but most fans are expecting the Prize Fighter to be back with the company very soon. Owens has become one of the company's most popular stars of 2019, thanks to his feud with the Best in the World. He speaks as the voice of many disgruntled fans.

During his time in WWE, especially on the main roster, Baron Corbin has certainly angered some fans who believe the new King of the Ring lacks the in-ring talent for the opportunities he's been given. This is something Owens could bring up when he makes his eventual return to the roster in the not so distant future.

Aligning Corbin with McMahon could also do wonders for the King, as working alongside the boss would keep the former Money in the Bank winner a consistent presence on TV, and could lead to bigger and better favors from the Best in the World.

#1: Universal Champion Seth Rollins

The King and the Beast Slayer know themselves well, having already battled over the Universal title this year. Baron Corbin came up short against Seth Rollins at Super ShowDown under controversial circumstances and also lost to the Architect at WWE Stomping Grounds.

After losing in mixed tag team action once again to the Universal Champion at Extreme Rules, it seemed Corbin had run out of chances against Rollins. But that was before the former RAW General Manager became King of the Ring.

As King, Corbin will no doubt be considering himself the next number one contender for the richest title on Monday Night RAW, and a feud between the King and the Architect isn't a terrible idea.

One blip in this plan is The Fiend vs Seth Rollins at WWE Hell in a Cell, with the Universal title on the line. Whatever happens inside the cage on October 6, expect the new King of the Ring to be watching intently, as Corbin's journey to get back into the title hunt starts again.
