5 RAW Superstars who should be involved in the US Championship picture

Just as Roman Reigns and King Corbin have battled for the last six months, the same thing has happened between US Champ Andrade and any combo of Rey Mysterio or Humberto Carrillo. It might not have been as long as the Reigns/Corbin angle but it seems as if only those three and Angel Garza have been a part of this feud with El Idolo.

I'm not complaining about the quality of the matches because they have been excellent. Carrillo vs. Garza was the highlight of Super Showdown and any time a combination of these talents has squared off, it's arguably been the top match of the card.

What I am suggesting is that more Superstars get added to the title chase. For those who aren't in a program or not considered as a challenger for the WWE Championship, they need something else to strive for. In the past that has been a mid-card title.

RAW has perhaps its best mid-card in years. In addition to the four men mentioned above, there are also several other Superstars that could benefit from exposure in the US Championship picture. While Rowan would have normally made sense, he's been putting over faces moving up the ladder. That isn't to say that many other performers could be having great matches for RAW's secondary title. Here are five Superstars from the Red brand that should be involved in the US title picture.

#5 R-Truth

Truth is a former US Champ in his own right

The 24/7 Championship has taken a drastic turn without the comedic R-Truth anchoring the division and segments around it. He brought life to the 24/7 title chase and created magic when paired with a potential challenger each week.

It is understandable to have a more serious take on the title now with actual matches for the belt. But once those matches have concluded, there haven't been any other shenanigans surrounding the Champion. There still need to be.

Since Truth isn't being used in that capacity, he could be used as a veteran in the division just like Mysterio. Both men are still in great shape and are extremely over with the crowd. He could even be used as a potential Champion for a younger Superstar to dethrone. I know he was out recording a new album recently but he's too valuable as an all-around performer to not be used.

#4 Bobby Lashley

Bobby Lashley

Now that he's moved on from his storyline with Rusev, Lana and Liv Morgan, Bobby Lashley has seemed a little directionless. He still has matches but there don't appear to be any angles at the moment for The All Mighty. Lashley is not the most charismatic of Superstars but he is still a talented and useful performer on the roster.

Want a veteran specimen for a young up-and-comer to tangle with? I give you Lashley. Do you want that physical threat to be overcome in a good angle? There's Lashley.

Since The All Mighty isn't getting into the WWE Championship picture at the moment, a great use of his talents would be to continue his work as a mid-card heel.

Monster heels like Brock Lesnar and Lashley provide an almost insurmountable physical challenge for faces to overcome. If a person like Mysterio, Carrillo, Ricochet or Aleister Black wins the US Championship this year then Lashley would be a serious threat to their title reign. And if they want to have Lana involved in some fashion, it would be great as well since she gets a lot of heat from the WWE Universe.

# 3 Cedric Alexander

Match quality is a staple of the recent US title scene and Alexander can put on great matches with anyone. He did so against Styles and all of the other heels when he was given the spotlight. That's not even considering his time as Cruiserweight Champion and his matches with the likes of Ali and Murphy.

Lately, however, he seems to have fallen more into the role of a stepping stone. That's unfortunate because he is very talented and creative inside the ring. One way to both give him something to do and salvage his tenure is to thrust him into the US title scene.

The last few Champions have made the title matches somewhat of a work-rate division which was something that the WCW Cruiserweights used to do. With a lot of similarly sized Superstars in the running, that's exactly what should happen with RAW's current mid-card title.

It doesn't need to be an unofficial Cruiserweight title but it should be used to have two Superstars put forth incredible contests. The Superstars who have battled the current Champ have done just that and Alexander is another performer who could put on a great match if given another shot.

#2 Aleister Black

The Dutch Destroyer
The Dutch Destroyer

He might be currently embroiled in feuds featuring both Seth Rollins and AJ Styles, but if Black isn't going to get a shot at Brock Lesnar then he needs to be in the running for the US Championship.

Black has an aura unlike most of the current full-time Superstars and he has proven his mettle in the ring numerous times. His times of beating the lower tier of the roster has passed and as we have seen, he has moved on to bigger and more dangerous opponents.

His direction for the Show of Shows is currently in limbo unless he somehow teams up with The Undertaker against The OC. But if he does not, Black cannot simply be shoehorned into the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royale. He's moved slowly up the card and a natural progression for him would be to challenge the US Champion.

If it is still Andrade, then they have plenty of history from NXT to revisit. Black defeated El Idolo for the title and it essentially sent Andrade to the main roster. The two could easily rekindle the magic they had in their NXT title feud.

As he showcased with Murphy, Cesaro, Rowan, Styles and Rollins, Black is great in the ring and works well with any kind of Superstar. He just needs a shot at a title for him to truly be received as a main-eventer.

#1 Ricochet

The One and Only
The One and Only

Ricochet actually won the title over the summer last year but is still looking to capture his next championship. He has routinely wowed the crowd with his feats of athleticism and move set. The One and Only even beat both Seth Rollins and Lashley in order to face The Beast Incarnate at Super ShowDown but he was defeated rather quickly.

Like Black, Ricochet isn't going to be a staple of the WWE title scene just yet but he needs to be utilized properly. There were some rumors that Vince McMahon has lost interest in The One and Only and if that's true, it's a shame. Ricochet was a case promotion from NXT that got the crowd behind him from the start. As Shayna Baszler is finding out now, reactions and expectations vary greatly from NXT to the main roster. Because of his crowd-pleasing style, however, it wasn't hard for Ricochet to immediately connect with audiences.

As mentioned on the Alexander slide, the US title scene should be used as a work-rate division. The mid-card on RAW is full of extremely gifted workers like Alexander, Ricochet, Murphy, Andrade, Rusev, Samoa Joe, Carrillo, Mysterio and Black.

RAW needs to take advantage of that and book a plethora of matches featuring great workers rather than the same four.
