5 reasons why WWE is planning Seth Rollins vs Braun Strowman for the Universal Championship at Clash of Champions

Seth vs Braun?
Seth vs Braun?

As we reported, Dave Meltzer of WON stated on the post-Raw edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio that the current plan is to have Braun Strowman vs. Seth Rollins for the Universal Championship at Clash of Champions on 15th of September.

Here is what Meltzer stated:

"It is Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman in the Charlotte main event. Unless Vince changes his mind, but I don't think he's going to."
"I think that's pretty much (set), which is weird because the do everything to make Seth into a babyface and they bring in Braun, who is going to be a super babyface the way that they brought him in and just because he's been forgotten about for a few weeks.

Let us take a look at 5 reasons why WWE could be planning this feud for Clash of Champions:

#5 Heel Turn

There was a time when Braun Strowman was the most feared heel on the WWE roster. Those times are long gong, unfortunately. After his iconic feud with The Big Dog, Strowman lost a lot of his momentum and drifted into a limbo where he was neither a heel nor a babyface.

Over the past year, however, Strowman's immense popularity led WWE to turn the monster into a complete babyface. Unfortunately for Strowman though, he failed to live up to his monstrous image as a face and faded away into the mid-card or irrelevant side acts.

While Strowman came to the aid of The Architect this past week on RAW, it is highly likely that by planning a feud between Rollins and Strowman, WWE wants The Monster Among Men to revert to being a monstrous heel.

Seth Rollins is currently one of the most loved Superstars on the roster and a feud with the Universal Champion would certainly mean that the WWE Universe will eventually turn on Strowman even if he supports the same character.

#4 Paul Heyman wants to push Strowman

Ever since Rollins won the Universal Championship at WrestleMania 35 (and lost it at Extreme Rules) he has been feuding with either Baron Corbin or Brock Lesnar - Superstars who are not very well-liked by the WWE Universe. This resulted in a lack of interest in Rollins as the Champion, and his reign ended up being rather forgettable.

However, the new executive director of RAW - Paul Heyman, is reportedly very keen on pushing Braun Strowman. As reported by SportsKeeda's Tom Colohue, WWE is looking to build Strowman back into the monster that he once was:

The idea is to get Strowman back to his roots as a monster, just destroying everything in his path. He hasn’t been used as effectively as he could be.”

#3 Right timing

Braun Strowman has been floundering on the roster for a long time now. Being relegated to inconsequential matches and segments has seriously diluted the credibility of the Monster.

Having been left off the past few major PPVs including SummerSlam, the time is correct for Strowman to bounce back and help freshen-up the main event scene. Seth Rollins also needs a challenger that has been away from the main event picture so that there is a sense of departure from the usual names in the main event - and what better time to start the new feud than after SummerSlam.

#2 Legitimize Seth Rollins as the Champion

While Seth Rollins is one of the greatest athletes of this generation, it can't be argued that he hasn't been the strongest world champion, especially, as the Universal Champion. While Rollins came across as a brilliant heel during his reign as the WWE Champion in 2015, his recent run with the Universal belt has fallen flat.

A feud, followed by a legitimate victory over someone like Braun Strowman will automatically shoot up the credibility of Seth Rollins as a strong champion. Braun Strowman is an imposing figure and can topple everything - from trucks to backstage sets; a win over a man like that will surely give a boost to Rollins' current reign.

#1 Braun Strowman to finally become Champion

One of the reasons WWE might be planning to make the next number one contender for the Universal Championship could be that they want him to become the next Champion.

While it may seem to soon to end Rollins' second reign as the Universal Champion, WWE could be planning a major twist and might have made The Architect the Champion only for Strowman to take it from him at Clash of Champions. Unbelievable as it may sound, Seth Rollins may just be a placeholder Champion right now.
