5 storylines WWE never followed up on

Didn't The Fiend have a weakness of some kind?
Didn't The Fiend have a weakness of some kind?

WWE does numerous storylines every single year and while many of them end up being wildly successful, others just fall flat and really offer nothing to the overall product. Now that's not necessarily a bad thing, especially since it's impossible to always create gold on every single outing, but there are some that are more noticeable than others.

Furthermore, there are some storylines that for one reason or another got started and were never finished. It's almost like the company doesn't want to acknowledge that these things actually happened and try to just forget about them. What's interesting about that, however, is that not ever scrapped storyline was failure.

With that being said and a few possible successes and failures on this list, here are five storylines that WWE never followed up on. As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments below and be sure to tell us which storylines you wish WWE had actually followed up on.

#5. Batista's rematch

Why did Batista never get his rematch?
Why did Batista never get his rematch?

Isn't it funny how the world of pro wrestling works sometimes?

While the original goal for WrestleMania 30 was supposedly to have Batista win the Royal Rumble and go on to defeat Randy Orton for the WWE Title, a fan rebellion stopped it dead in its tracks. In fact, the company was pretty much forced to put Daniel Bryan in the WWE title picture and eventually award him the title after defeating both Orton and Batista.

With that being said, Batista was promised a rematch with Bryan for the WWE Title and ended up never getting it. Instead, he was paired with Triple H and Randy Orton to reform Evolution and take on The Shield. Now that feud turned out to be nothing less than legendary, especially with how it all ended, but Batista never ended up back in the title picture.

In the end, The Shield versus Evolution feud probably played a huge role in Batista never getting a rematch, but Bryan's concussion injury and Batista's contract expiring definitely put the nail in the coffin. Unfortunately for the WWE Universe, Batista decided to retire from pro wrestling after a loss to Triple H at WrestleMania 35, which effectively ended any chance of this match happening.

#4. Nia Jax giving Becky Lynch a concussion

Why did WWE never follow up on Becky Lynch versus Nia Jax?
Why did WWE never follow up on Becky Lynch versus Nia Jax?

The Raw before Survivor Series 2018 was one of craziest nights in WWE history and featured an army of SmackDown Superstars taking on the red brand. Unfortunately for Becky Lynch, who was set to face off against Ronda Rousey in a champion vs. champion match, she was injured by a stray punch from Nia Jax during the chaos.

Now, the accidental punch was never deemed intentional and Jax wasn't punished for the incident, but Lynch suffered a concussion as a result. This also meant she couldn't take part in the champion vs. champion match at Survivor Series, which really got fans angry over the dream match getting scrapped.

In the end, WWE never followed up on this in any meaningful way and it was disappointing to see. Seriously though, how cool would it have been to see Lynch go on on one with the woman who almost ruined her career? Wouldn't that have been some great television if WWE had only pulled the trigger on it?

#3. Paige as an authority figure

Is Paige an authority figure for SmackDown or not?

It's no secret that Paige has gotten the short end of the stick when it came to her wrestling career and her eventual retirement due to neck problems was nothing short of upsetting. With that being said, WWE has kept her in their fold for quite some time now and have even used her in different capacities.

In fact, between being an analyst for Backstage on Fox Sports, participating in pay per view panels and acting as a manager for a few teams, Paige has done it all. Paige has even been a authority figure on and off in the last couple of years, which is why she ended up on this list.

While Paige was never confirmed as a General Manager of any kind, she announced via Skype on a March 2020 episode of Raw that Bayley would compete in a six-pack challenge at WrestleMania 36. Of course it was great to see Paige back on screen and involved in storyline, but it became disappointing when WWE never followed up on it.

#2. Liv Morgan and Lana's past

Remember when Liv Morgan confessed her love for Lana?

It was the final Raw of 2019 and WWE hosted the wedding of the century. At least that's what WWE was playing it up as. What it ended up being though was a Jerry Springer style car wreck that left fans with more questions than answers.

And that's not even a bad thing. In fact, from the multiple interruptions WWE staged, Lana's overall vapid demeanor and Bobby Lashley sitting there with a grin on his face, it was pretty memorable. Keep in mind, this was all before Morgan walked her way down the entrance ramp and mentioned that her and Lana were secret lovers.

Unfortunately for the WWE Universe, the company was just going for shock value with this segment and had no intention of following up on it. Of course, no one could really blame them since the storyline could end up offending people on both sides of the political aisle, but it was something so different and out of the box!

#1. The Fiend's biggest weakness

So does The Fiend have a weakness or not?
So does The Fiend have a weakness or not?

Believe it or not, there was a time when WWE repeatedly teased that The Fiend had a weakness, but never followed up on it. In fact, WWE brought it up several times throughout the feud between The Fiend and Daniel Bryan, which is why not getting answer to that question was so jarring.

What was even more jarring however, was the fact that WWE had Goldberg destroy The Fiend in a squash match and took his title for good measure. Again, no explanation was ever given in storyline as to why Goldberg was the only one to defeat The Fiend, but that was quickly forgotten about too.

With that being said, The Fiend is a special kind of entity. He is someone that seems to be immune from losing relevance. Furthermore, he seems to be a character that the WWE Universe believes in no matter what, thus why the company was ultimately able to sweep the weakness thing under the rug.
