5 Superstars fans just love to hate

Despite many years as a face, Hogan was one of the most booed stars in WCW.

Ever since professional wrestling has been around, there have been good guys and there have been bad guys.

Without a good heel, a babyface can seem bland, without an arch-nemesis to face off against.

Look at NXT for example, and the current feud between Johnny Gargano and reigning NXT Champion Tomasso Ciampa.

As a tag-team, the two friends were inseparable, until Ciampa turned on Gargano, igniting a feud between the two which has captivated fans both at Full Sail and at home.

The feud has elevated both men, with Ciampa capturing the NXT Championship from Alesteir Black, and Gargano becoming (arguably) the most naturally beloved babyface since Daniel Bryan.

Here are 5 superstars that the WWE Universe just loved to hate.

#1 Chris Jericho

It seems crazy in 2018, with how popular the first-ever Undisputed champion is, that there was a time when Chris Jericho could ever be booed.

Yet for several years of his career, Jericho was seduced by the dark side, with perhaps his best months as a heel coming in 2008.

Feeling betrayed after falling for a fake injury by Shawn Michaels, Jericho assaulted the showstopper, throwing him through a television screen, nearly blinding HBK.

From there, Jericho changed his entire character, favoring methodical slow promos instead of his loud excited speeches, with expensive suits replacing his classic tights.

#2 The Miz

A bonafide star in the WWE, The Miz is an 8-time Intercontinental Champion, as well as a 2-time United States Champion, Tag Team Champion, and WWE Champion.

Outside of the Squared Circle, the A-Lister is the star of WWE Studios' 'The Marine' series, as well as one of the stars on their hit reality series 'Miz and Mrs'.

With his cocky, Johnny Cage-esque personality, The Miz has become one of the company's top heels, in a time where the bad guys are often cheered more than the faces.

This year, the A-Lister has taken his evil deeds to the next level, targetting Daniel Bryan, who returned to the ring after retiring due to injuries two years ago.

#3 Edge

As the Ultimate Opportunist, Edge was able to terrorize Friday Night SmackDown, after joining the brand in 2007.

With his cunning offense and tactical mind, The Rated-R Superstar was already a formidable opponent but took it to the next level after aligning himself with then-SmackDown General Manager, Vickie Guerrero.

Together, the pair dominated the brand, using an array of superstars to keep the World Championship with them, including Chavo Guerrero, Curt Hawkins, Zack Ryder and Bam Neeley.

Edge returned as a face in January 2010, but would not hold the World Championship until December that year, perhaps proving that for the Canadian, it was good to be bad.

#2 Stephanie McMahon

Ruling with an iron fist over the WWE, Stephanie McMahon has developed from being 'Daddy's little girl', into a ruthless businesswoman, hell-bent on doing what she perceives as 'Best for business'.

Turning on her father in 1999, Stephanie joined sides with Triple H, before faking a pregnancy in 2002 to try and keep them together.

As a part of the Authority (and later, RAW Commissioner) McMahon has even used her powers to capture championship gold, winning the WWF Women's title in 2000.

But perhaps there is no act worse than Stephanie slapping her own mother Linda, a truly unforgivable crime.

And she's not even the worst one in the family...

#1 Mr. McMahon

A heel that transcends the sport, the character of Mr. McMahon has mainstream appeal. After all, who hasn't had a boss who they would love to beat the heck out of.

Paired with 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin, the pair were a crucial part of the Attitude Era, with Austin's everyman always finding a way to stick it to the snooty, and at times demonic Mr. McMahon.

After the historic era, McMahon has done some dastardly deeds, including the formation of the Kiss My A** club, making his own religion in 2006 and even wanted to shave Daniel Bryan's beard!

Behind the scenes, McMahon is the real-life boss of the company, but has always led by example, never being afraid to take one for the team.
