Chris Jericho put over John Cena in a big way on his way out of WWE in 2005. It ended with him losing his job and he would proceed to take a two-year hiatus before making a return.

The anticipation of it all was incredible. WWE put out many cryptic binary code messages referencing Chris Jericho and it culminated in his return in September 2007, where he confronted Randy Orton and began a WWE Championship feud.

While it may not be as well-recognized as most surprise returns, it was another example of the incredible work that Chris Jericho did to reinvent himself. If the return wasn't incredible enough, 2008 would kickstart what many feel was the greatest year of his career.

He would further reinvent himself and enjoy a run as the World Heavyweight Champion under a new heel persona - one that many consider the best work of his career. The reason we chose the 2007 return over his various other epic returns is that it led to the greatest year of his career. Not only did it have the most impact when he came back, but it led up to something even more incredible.

It's incredible to think that over 12 years on, he's still on top of his game and still managing to constantly reinvent himself.
