#4 The Midnight Express
WWE took the rare step in 2017 of inducting a tag team into the WWE Hall of Fame that largely had success outside of the WWE Universe in the NWA. That tag team was Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson, The Rock N' Roll Express. Inducting the team was their arch nemesis Jim Cornette, the manager of the tag team that had plagued The Rock N' Roll Express for decades and competed in a plethora of five-star classic tag team matches against them, The Midnight Express.
The Midnight Express, managed by Cornette, has seen a few iterations over the years. The first was the combination of Dennis Condry and Bobby Eaton. However, Condry was later removed and replaced by Stan Lane. The matches between The Midnight Express and The Rock N' Roll Express during the heydays of the National Wrestling Alliance and Jim Crockett Promotions are still talked about to this day.
True pioneers of tag team wrestling and without a shadow of a doubt one of the greatest tag teams of all time, The Midnight Express and Jim Cornette are far overdue to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
Too controversial for the WWE Hall of Fame?
Some could argue that the reason The Midnight Express and Jim Cornette have yet to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame could be due to WWE's concern about putting a live microphone in the hands of Jim Cornette. However, the Louisville Loudmouth managed to bite his tongue and be civil when inducting the Rock N' Roll Express into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017, so why would it be any different now?
Another explanation as to why The Midnight Express hasn't been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame is because WWE doesn't think its fanbase cares or is aware of tag team wrestling from the NWA and Jim Crockett Promotions during the 1980s. However, once again this myth was dispelled through the induction of The Rock N' Roll Express in 2017.
There's no doubt that The Midnight Express is overdue an induction into the WWE Hall of Fame. Furthermore, another Jim Cornette induction speech would be worth the price of admission alone.
