5 Things That Shouldn't Have Happened On SmackDown Live - 12th June, 2018

The Miz can sell anything!
The Miz can sell anything!

With this week's SmackDown being the last stop before the Money In The Bank PPV, SmackDown Live tried its best to build up hype to the PPV. The Go Home Show of the Blue Brand clearly started off on a better note than did its counterpart.

The women of SmackDown Live kicked things off with a bang. The four competitors for the MITB briefcase ended up brawling on the outside of the ring with Mandy Rose, Sonya Deville and The IIconics.

Shelton Benjamin and Daniel Bryan put on a must watch match. Even though Benjamin came off short, he proved that he can still put on grade A matches. We hope to see these two men square off many more times in the WWE.

Nakamura proved that he is probably one of the best heels in the business right now. In his match against Jeff Hardy, The King of Strong Style showed that he is just one move away from taking away the WWE Title from Styles.

While Hardy was close to pulling off a victory, Nakamura, in a desperate situation, went for the move that he has begun to love, the low blow. After getting disqualified, Nakamura stood there and counted to ten with the United States Champion unable to answer the count. Could this be the scene on Sunday?

Despite these few highs on the show, the show had a few segments that shouldn't have happened or could have happened differently.

#5 The AJ Styles promo

Another promo about the same thing
Another promo about the same thing

In an interview with Jerry 'The King' Lawler, Styles didn't really say anything that we didn't know. He recapped what happened the previous week during the contract signing between Nakamura and himself.

Styles recalled that he slapped Nakamura and that he should have punched him instead. He reiterated that he would be the last man standing and that he will be leaving MITB as the WWE Champion.

This interview had provided us with nothing new. It was a summary of what went down the previous week at the contract signing between the two competitors. With this being the go home show, this interview by Styles was bland and didn't help to hype the match further.

#4 Practically killing the tag team match

Relegated to the kickoff show

The tag team division of both brands has suffered enough after the Superstar Shake-Up. While things looked bleak for the RAW tag team division, the same was not expected of SmackDown's.

It was great to see the Good Brothers getting the push, but they weren't built all that well for the crowd to get behind them.

The sad part is that this match had much more potential than RAW's tag team title match. The lack of creative direction or lazy writing or just maybe because this match is too premature resulted in its relegation.

With Anderson picking up a quick victory last week, things did get interesting about this match. But the exclusion of this match from the main card just proves that the titles will not change hands.

All we can hope for is that the Good Brothers are built like the dominant team they are a legitimate threat to the SmackDown tag team division.

#3 Big Cass' promo

"I'm tall, Bryan is short"

In the second repetitive promo of the night, Cass restated that he is taller than Daniel Bryan and there's no way Bryan could match up to his level.

This has been the routine since Backlash. Cass only cuts promos about how tall he is and does nothing else.

At this point, this seems meaningless because he tapped out to Bryan at Backlash. There is a very strong chance that he could win the match this time, but him showing up and cutting promos with the same theme every week is not helping his case.

Making things worse, his opponent at MITB is competing in matches and showing the crowd that despite his size, he can pull off anything. Bryan has very little to lose while Cass has a lot on the line.

The seven-footer hasn't done much since his return from injury and he needs to be booked in a strong manner if he needs to be memorable on the roster.

#2 Almas missing in action

Almas needs as much on screen time as possible
Almas needs as much on-screen time as possible

Since his call-up to the main roster, Almas' run has been disheartening. Almas has the caliber to be a main eventer if not present in a relevant feud. His jump from NXT was long awaited and the treatment that he has received on the main roster is dismaying.

Not that a feud with Sin Cara was a way to set him free from this dreadlock but at least he had something to do. With Sin Cara injured, Almas could have been involved in a squash match to send Sin Cara a message.

Almas needs to be seen by the viewers so that they know what he is really capable of. Probably after MITB, he should get a better direction and opponent to work with.

#1 No implosion/brawls

All competitors on the same page?
All competitors on the same page?

In an amazing main event, we saw Asuka finally giving Carmella a reason to fear her. Asuka locked Carmella in the Asuka lock that forced the SmackDown Women's Champion to tap out.

While the match was enjoyable, watching neither the female MITB competitors nor Styles and Nakamura implode didn't really set the tone for MITB. The women worked well as a unit and even after the match, they hugged and acted as a team.

Two women losing their cool or if one was trying to show the rest why she is better would have made things interesting. All they did after the match was surround Asuka and stare at each other.
