We never saw it coming!

Welcome to things WWE subtly told us at SummerSlam 2020. The Biggest Party Of The Summer was an exciting one and as a whole, SummerSlam 2020 delivered. It didn't have the strongest card. In fact, one could argue that SummerSlam 2020 was the weakest card of its kind in quite a few years.

Regardless, it delivered with some great matches, great storytelling, and great post-match angles. It'll be exciting to see how WWE handles things post-SummerSlam 2020.

We'll start off with the main event that made the wrestling world go abuzz. Let's jump right into SummerSlam 2020:

#5 The SummerSlam 2020 main event ending and explanation

Roman Reigns is back!
Roman Reigns is back!

There's a lot to unpack with the main event. While we expected Drew McIntyre vs Randy Orton to headline SummerSlam 2020, the PPV main event was the Falls Count Anywhere Universal Championship match between Braun Strowman and 'The Fiend' Bray Wyatt.

We'll be the first ones to admit that we've been underwhelmed by the feud between the two former faction members. While they have a history together, their chemistry hasn't been strong on-screen. However, this match was easily the best of the trilogy.

However, there was a reason behind the match headlining SummerSlam 2020 - Roman Reigns. That's right, The Big Dog returned for the first time in five months to take out 'The Fiend' and viciously attack Braun Strowman.

'The Fiend' Bray Wyatt is now a two-time Universal Champion after defeating Braun Strowman at SummerSlam 2020 and Roman Reigns instantly interjected himself into the title picture.

For Payback, we could see it going two ways - It could either be a straightforward 'Fiend' vs Roman Reigns feud, or we could see a Triple Threat match involving both men and Braun Strowman.

One thing that must be addressed is the thought that Roman Reigns turned heel at SummerSlam 2020. Attacking Braun Strowman doesn't make him a heel. It appears to be the case where WWE wanted to bring him back in the most impactful way possible.

When looking at it from a storyline perspective - Braun Strowman was Roman Reigns' biggest rival since 2017 and he had a feud with Bray Wyatt in 2015 as well. There's no incentive for him to align with either man.

We're just glad to see Roman Reigns back. SmackDown desperately missed him.

#4 Why did Drew McIntyre vs Randy Orton at SummerSlam 2020 have such a weird finish?

Triumph!
Triumph!

Drew McIntyre vs Randy Orton was always going to be a methodical and technical match-up and that's what we saw between the two veterans at SummerSlam 2020. Competing for the WWE title at SummerSlam for the second year in a row, Randy Orton came closer than ever to becoming a 14-time World Champion and closing in on John Cena and Ric Flair's record.

The two faced off at SummerSlam 2020 in what we felt was a great match as a whole. If we were to rank the matches overall, this would likely fall at No.2 or No.3. There were no gimmicks needed and it was a straightforward wrestling match with some great storytelling.

There's a reason why Randy Orton wrestles the way he does and he matched up well with Drew McIntyre - who got what many feel is the biggest win of his WWE Championship run. However, their SummerSlam 2020 match ended with a sliding roll-up pin of sorts.

Not the best finish, but the likely reason behind the finish is to set up an immediate rematch at Payback 2020.

#3 The end of Sonya Deville's WWE career at SummerSlam 2020

Fin.
Fin.

While the match for SummerSlam 2020 was initially scheduled to be a hair vs hair match, things changed after the weekend where Sonya Deville's house was broken into and the scary incident occurred. While we can't say for sure whether it had to do with her departure, the reality is that her WWE career ended at SummerSlam 2020.

It's a real shame since Sonya Deville started to find her momentum lately - taking all the necessary measures to take a step up the card. She's even been better than Mandy Rose, who ultimately ended up defeating her at SummerSlam 2020.

The only issue with the match at SummerSlam 2020 was the fact that it wasn't intense enough to warrant the No Disqualification stipulation that it had attached to it. Either way, Mandy Rose ended up winning clean and this could either mean an extended hiatus for Sonya Deville or the legitimate end of her WWE career. If so, we wonder what's next for her after SummerSlam 2020.

#2 The fallout of Asuka's SummerSlam 2020

Frustration for Sasha Banks
Frustration for Sasha Banks

Asuka had the busiest night of all at SummerSlam 2020 - where she was the No.1 contender for both the RAW and SmackDown Women's Championships. As predicted, Bayley's recent losing streak on RAW and SmackDown was simply a set-up for her to win the opening match.

The match against Sasha Banks later at SummerSlam 2020 was one of the best matches of the night and solid as a whole. Asuka ended up winning after a hard-fought battle, but what transpired afterward was quite interesting.

As usual, Sasha Banks helped Bayley retain the SmackDown Women's Championship. In almost the exact same situation for Sasha Banks in her match against Asuka, Bayley evaded trouble and didn't help Sasha Banks - resulting in her loss.

There was a moment of tension between the two and Bayley looked guilty. They're going to defend the Women's Tag Team Championships after a long time at Payback 2020. Who will be their opponents? WIll this be the start of the downfall of The Golden Role Models?

#1 Dominik Mysterio's journey begins at Summerslam 2020

A great match and a great ending
A great match and a great ending

Dominik Mysterio had the most highly-anticipated WWE debut in years at SummerSlam 2020. It was, without a doubt, the match of the night. Not only did it have a great story behind it, but WWE gave them a solid 22-23 minutes to tell a story.

That was the most important aspect of the Summerslam 2020 match - the storytelling. Dominik told Rey Mysterio beforehand that he didn't want him to get involved in the match. Dominik's mother was present as well and she even made an appearance during the SummerSlam 2020 Street Fight match when Dominik was getting beaten down.

The influence from his father and Eddie Guerrero could be seen and Dominik proved at SummerSlam 2020 that he belongs in the ring with the best of the best. Seth Rollins certainly represents the cream of the crop in terms of wrestling talent and The Monday Night Messiah did a great job in brutalizing Dominik to gain sympathy.

Ultimately, he finished Dominik while Rey Mysterio watched on helplessly handcuffed. Dominik's performance was incredible and this is a clear indication that his future in WWE post-SummerSlam 2020 is going to be huge.
