Top 5 WWE Rumors Of The Week - January 8th, 2018

Le
Let's talk about some serious stuff here...

It's been a wild week in WWE, just like every week before this one and every week which will follow. Let's face it, we're pro wrestling fans for a reason and that's because it never gets boring.

Let's take a look at 5 of the stories from the week that really got the rumour mill churning and break them down a little bit in the process.

Even though this week was full of news just like the last, there's always something new and exciting in the wild and wonderful world of pro wrestling.

#5 Why Daniel Bryan is turning heel

Could he turn
Could he turn mega heel?

Daniel Bryan is in an interesting situation on SmackDown Live and it could turn ugly for the former WWE Champion who wants to wrestle so badly but WWE won't clear him to compete.

He's said in the past that if WWE won't let him wrestle, then he'll go elsewhere and if this rumour is true, then WWE could be using a television story for a nefarious reason.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter speculates WWE could be turning Daniel Bryan heel on television so he'll be worth less on the indie circuit when he makes his journey out into the great wide open after WWE.

It is theorized that this could be a way to damage his value. If Daniel Bryan does turn heel we might expect some pretty dastardly segments if WWE expects to get people to hate The Bearded GOAT.

#4 Bayley's backstage status

Will she ever
Will she ever hold a championship again?

Bayley was heavily hyped when she came up from NXT but since then, nothing has really amounted to anything for her. She has picked up a couple of titles along the way but they could be looked at as superficial because she wasn't booked as a strong champion at all.

Now that the Women's Royal Rumble is on the horizon it will be interesting to see how they'll let Bayley be featured in that war.

If Dave Meltzer's words on Wrestling Observer Radio are any indication of things, then Bayley's in for a long ride for the rest of her WWE career unless she can turn the nose up on her career that seems to be in a current nosedive to obscurity.

“They have already given up on her. And they’ve given up on her a long long time ago. When they’re gonna protect Mickie James over you when Mickie James was brought in to be a filler to lose on the roster, that just tells you. The dice has been cast with her already.”

It's sad when top superstars with so much potential have their push cancelled.

#3 Dolph Ziggler's status

Where
Where'd he go and when will he back?

Dolph Ziggler put his US Title on the mat after Clash Of Champions and walked away from WWE after telling the fans that they don't deserve him in the first place. It was a pretty surprising act and it looks like the US Title is now vacated.

A tournament began to determine a new champion and the final match is expected at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event. But Dolph Ziggler is still nowhere to be seen.

WWE even pulled The Show Off from upcoming SmackDown Live house shows that he had previously been advertised for, in order to sell the idea that he walked out.

But Ziggler isn't gone, nor is he going to New Japan as someone altered his Wikipedia page earlier this week to indicate.

Rumours indicate that he will be back on television soon and is expected to challenge the new US Champion in what could be a ladder match at WrestleMania 34 to reenact the classic storyline which led to the historic encounter between Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon.

#2 205 Live tour in trouble

This
This might not be a good sign

205 Live is WWE's Cruiserweight showcase but it really doesn't get nearly as much love as it should be getting. The ratings for the show have been dropping steadily and even with additions like Enzo Amore and Hideo Itami, they still can't get the numbers they deserve.

To top it off, WWE announced 205 Live's first-ever mini-tour and the first date of the tour has already been cancelled. There is no official word why this event was cancelled and why all purchased tickets have been refunded .

Rumours indicate that that they were able to sell enough tickets. If so, it's certainly bad news.

After all, these shows are also highlighted by Bray Wyatt vs Woken Matt Hardy. So it would be a shame if they couldn't sell enough tickets to justify holding the event.

5: More WWE illnesses

How y
How you doing?

Sports entertainment is a dangerous business because superstars always put their bodies on the line to entertain crowds of fans but it turns out there could also be some nasty illnesses around the corner as well.

Raj Giri at Wrestling Inc reported there were a few Superstars who were sick backstage at RAW and some were even given an IV.

The illnesses weren't confirmed but a lot of Superstars were forced to skip out on their New Year's Eve plans including Enzo Amore who stated on his Instagram that he had to miss out on P. Diddy's New Year's Eve party due to his illness.

That concludes our rumour round-up for the week. See you all again, next week!
