Can we expect the unexpected at this Sunday’s SmackDown Live PPV?

The first pay-per-view for the new SmackDown Live brand was a big success, but this time around, the blue brand will try to top it. Sometimes it’s all about great wrestling and sometimes you need some unforeseen surprises.

So let’s take a look at the 5 twists that could happen against the run of flow at WWE No Mercy 2016!

#5 Bray Wyatt Beats Randy Orton With No Help

The Apex Predator is always just a moment away from becoming the prey

Everybody seems to believe that every time Bray Wyatt has a big match, we are destined to see the return of The Wyatt Family. While they did indeed reform once before after a well-done breakup (which is a rarity these days), it felt like the Family was no more once Luke Harper fell to injury and Braun Strowman was drafted to RAW.

Erick Rowan has resumed his role as Bray Wyatt’s lackey, but he has been completely ineffective in his role and would benefit from being completely separated from Wyatt. Randy Orton, however, is and always has been, a very protected superstar.

He rarely loses, and when he does, it usually happens in a controversial manner or due to outright cheating by his opponent. He is one of the top stars on SmackDown and can be used to the benefit of others.

A defeat at the hands of a talent like Bray Wyatt, who the crowd still believes in after all of his failures, would not hurt Randy’s credibility or star power but would up Wyatt’s stock. This is especially true if Wyatt does it on his own. It’s a new era, why not let the self-proclaimed monster be the Eater of Worlds that he claims to be?

#4 Nikki Bella Gets Disqualified And Loses To Carmella

Nikki Bella
This Bella Twin will be more “Fearless” than ever before

After weeks and weeks of torture, taunting and just getting beat up, Nikki Bella has to have revenge on her mind, and in a big, big way. There were rumours a few weeks ago that WWE was going to make this a No Disqualification match, but maybe the plan is to use No Mercy as the escalation point that leads to the No DQ stipulation.

Carmella has outdone Nikki week in and week out with very little retaliation from the longest reigning Divas Champion of all time. It’s going to get ugly and a regular match is surely not going to finish things.

The common expectation is likely that Nikki wins the match and gets attacked by Carmella afterwards to set up a rematch, but that would be counterproductive. The babyface version of Nikki Bella is smart and tough, but not necessarily vicious. That’s generally saved for when she’s playing the villain.

At No Mercy, at least for a little while, that will change. It might be due to the use of a weapon, or by having the referee disqualify her for continuing an attack in the ropes or in the corner after the 5-count. It won’t take very long, either. The bell will ring, Nikki will attack, and within 2 minutes the match will be over.

#3 Curt Hawkins Interferes In The Intercontinental Championship Match

Curt Hawkins
I’m not sure that this will be a FACT

Is this truly a possibility? Well, they do say that “anything can happen” in WWE. With that in mind, WWE has three choices.

One: The Miz loses his title while he is riding a huge wave of momentum and is doing the best work of his career.

Two: Dolph Ziggler loses, fair and square in the middle of the ring and says goodbye.

Three: A non-finish or controversial finish. One of the men gets disqualified, possibly. Maybe Ziggler cheats to win and gets the title, but two days later has it taken away from him because Miz plays video footage of Ziggler holding his tights or with his feet on the ropes for leverage.

Or, maybe, somebody interferes in the match. It could cause Ziggler to lose, but Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon would deem that an unacceptable way for Ziggler to have to hang up his boots. Curt Hawkins had promised to show up at No Mercy, though.

Having him interfere in this high stakes match that has been built up in one of the best feuds in a long time would be severely detrimental and extremely disappointing, but that has never stopped WWE before.

#2 Luke Harper Returns And Takes Out Bray Wyatt

Luke Harper
He is no longer satisfied being just a follower

This twist does indeed clash with the idea of Wyatt defeating Orton clean in the middle of the ring, but in a universe of hypotheticals, the possibilities are endless. Luke Harper is reportedly ready to get back in the ring after being sidelined by an injury.

In a cruel bit of irony, what Bray Wyatt did to Randy Orton at Backlash happens to Bray Wyatt at No Mercy. Randy Orton stands in the ring waiting for Bray Wyatt. His familiar music hits, but there’s no Bray. Orton looks around, expecting to be ambushed.

Instead, the music stops playing and the cameras catch the end of an attack backstage near the entrance to the stage. The attacker turns around, and it's Luke Harper! He walks out onto the stage and proclaims that Bray Wyatt is old news and that he is the real New Face of Fear.

He is going to do all of the things that Bray Wyatt was never able to do, and he is going to start by defeating Randy Orton. The biggest twist of all, he actually does exactly what he says he is going to do and defeats Randy Orton.

#1 AJ Styles Loses The WWE World Championship... To Dean Ambrose

Dean Ambrose
Revenge is a cruel shot to the nether regions

I am not one of the people in the camp who believes John Cena is going to win this match and make history by equaling Ric Flair’s 16 World Title victories. In fact, I believe that Cena is done winning titles in general, with the lone exception of the possibility of an eventual Tag Title run.

That said, at Backlash AJ Styles had to cheat to defeat Dean Ambrose and take his WWE World Title. Ambrose seems to be leaning toward the realm of becoming a full-fledged bad guy, and even while he plays the babyface he is still not afraid to break the rules.

Just when it looks like Cena is going to hit the Attitude Adjustment and pick up his 16th World Title, Ambrose comes in and kicks him right in the groin. He tosses Cena out of the ring, picks up a prone AJ Styles, kicks him low as a receipt for Backlash, then hits the Dirty Deeds and takes back what he believes is still his property.
