5 WWE stars who no-sold fan interruptions

For the most part, WWE fans are allowed to do and say as they please when they attend WWE events. Unlike other scripted television shows, WWE is all about audience interaction. If a fan wants to cheer WWE’s top bad guy, they can. If someone wants to start a negative chant about a babyface, they can.

There are, of course, a few exceptions. The biggest exception is when a WWE fan hops over the barricade and tries to confront a Superstar. That has happened several times in WWE, both on live television and at live events.

In less serious situations, some Superstars have even had something thrown at them during a match or ring entrance.

While some Superstars have immediately reacted to these incidents, others have completely ignored the distraction and continued performing like nothing even happened.

In this article, let’s take a look at five WWE stars who no-sold interruptions from fans.

#5 Natalya no-sold a bottle being thrown at her (WWE Crown Jewel 2019)

In 2018, WWE began holding two pay-per-view events per year in Saudi Arabia. Up until that point, the company had never been allowed to book women’s matches on their shows in the country.

That rule continued at WWE’s first three major Saudi Arabia shows: Greatest Royal Rumble 2018, Crown Jewel 2018, and Super ShowDown 2019.

At the fourth major WWE event in the country, Crown Jewel 2019, the card included a women’s match for the first time. The history-making match, Natalya vs. Lacey Evans, lasted seven minutes and ended with Natalya making her opponent submit.

During Natalya’s entrance, someone threw a water bottle at her leg when she was midway down the ramp. The Queen of Harts carried on with her entrance and did not let it affect her.

She went on to discuss the incident, which has been removed from the WWE Network replay, in an interview with Yahoo Sports:

"When that water bottle was thrown, it was kind of symbolic of my life, our lives as people. I have yet to meet a person who has yet to have a struggle in their journey.
"For me, all I could think of in that moment was that ‘Oh, a bottle was thrown.’ I was going to keep going forward because forward is forward no matter what the pace is. Because of that mindset I’ve gotten to where I am today. I’ve had so much worse than bottles thrown at me."

WWE’s fifth major event in Saudi Arabia, Super ShowDown 2020, featured another women’s match between Bayley and Naomi.

#4 The Shield no-sold a fan invasion (WWE Night of Champions 2015)

Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns joined forces with Chris Jericho to face The Wyatt Family at WWE Night of Champions 2015.

Heading into the pay-per-view, the build-up revolved around who the mystery third member of The Shield would be. At that point, Seth Rollins had been a member of The Authority for over a year, but Ambrose and Reigns always remained allies.

With uncertainty surrounding the identity of their partner, a fan ran into the ring wearing Shield-esque attire and stared directly at Reigns. Both Reigns and Ambrose looked at the man before WWE’s security team ushered him away.

As is the case with most stories in this article, the fan invasion has been edited out of the PPV replay on the WWE Network.

Reigns and Ambrose did not say anything to the fan or go near him. Seconds later, Jericho’s music hit and the nine-time WWE Intercontinental Champion was revealed as their tag team partner.

The match ended in a win for The Wyatt Family (Bray Wyatt, Braun Strowman, and Luke Harper). Jericho and Ambrose had a disagreement at the end of the match, planting the seeds for their one-on-one rivalry in 2016.

#3 Paul Bearer no-sold a fan invasion (WWE RAW)

Paul Bearer walked to the ring on the June 30, 1997 episode of WWE RAW to discuss his history with The Undertaker. The promo included lots of backstory about The Undertaker’s childhood with Kane, who had not debuted on WWE television yet.

As Bearer made his way to ringside, a girl suddenly appeared and double-legged him. The Undertaker’s former manager fell to the floor and WWE's security team had to take the girl away.

Bearer stayed professional and pretended that nothing happened. He went on to cut an incredible in-ring promo and he did not mention the girl once.

Over two decades later, The Undertaker spoke about the incident in an out-of-character appearance on Chavo Guerrero’s podcast. The WWE icon explained that the girl was an obsessive fan who also sent him a perfume bottle containing her own blood.

“The perfume was gone and it was filled with blood. It was this girl’s blood. She wrote this long letter about how she was so sorry that Paul Bearer did this to me and that she would follow me to the end of time. I’m like, ‘Woah, this is a whackjob,’ right?”

Later that night, the girl knocked on The Undertaker’s hotel room door while he had several other WWE Superstars in his room. He phoned the hotel reception and they were able to remove her from the premises.

The Undertaker added that he planned to stop at a convenience store with another WWE Superstar, Brian Lee, on the same night. When he pulled up to the parking lot, he noticed that she was waiting for him on the side of the road.

Needless to say, he kept on driving to avoid having another interaction with the girl.

#2 Seth Rollins no-sold a fan invasion (WWE RAW)

Seth Rollins is no stranger to fan invasions. His most famous on-screen interaction with a fan took place on the August 15, 2016 episode of WWE RAW when someone interrupted his in-ring promo. Rollins pushed the fan away and questioned whether he was the alter-ego of his SummerSlam opponent, “Demon” Finn Balor.

One year before that incident, Rollins was also joined by a fan before the main event of the September 7, 2015 episode of WWE RAW. The then-WWE Champion and United States Champion teamed with Big E & Kofi Kingston against John Cena, Titus O’Neil & Darren Young.

As the other Superstars waited in the ring, a fan hopped the barricade and strutted alongside Rollins down the entrance ramp. Unlike the other incident, Rollins took one look at this fan and allowed security to do the rest. He then continued his walk around ringside before joining The New Day in the ring.

The fan’s appearance made it onto the live broadcast of RAW. WWE’s cameras then cut to Cena, who could be seen telling his tag team partners about what happened.

The WWE Network replay of this moment (01:57:40) has been replaced with a graphic advertising Rollins vs. Sting at WWE Night of Champions.

#1 Brock Lesnar no-sold a fan throwing a drink at him (WWE RAW)

The WWE Universe should know by now that Brock Lesnar is not someone to mess with. The Beast has racked up countless accomplishments inside and outside of WWE and he is one of the most legitimate tough guys in WWE history.

Lesnar retained his WWE Universal Championship against Braun Strowman, Roman Reigns, and Samoa Joe at WWE SummerSlam 2017.

On the August 14, 2017 episode of RAW before the PPV, the then-Universal Champion made his usual entrance alongside Paul Heyman. This included his trademark jump-up-and-down-on-the-spot moment at the top of the entrance ramp.

Unfortunately, on this occasion, one fan thought they would try to sabotage Lesnar’s entrance by throwing water over him. The video above clearly shows that the water landed on the former UFC star. However, both he and Heyman completely no-sold it and carried on as normal.

If the fan intended to make a name for themselves that night, they definitely did not succeed. The water spray was hardly even visible on television or on WWE’s replay of that episode of RAW (02:04:30 on the WWE Network).
