5 WWE stars that need to be pushed

With WrestleMania over, WWE superstars have the chance to start the upcoming year with a clean slate. With all the rivalries and matches for 'Mania now concluded, the stars on the roster who were disappointed with not getting a more prominent spot on the card, now have a chance to prove themselves.

There are multiple stars on the roster who will be looking to grab that brass ring in the upcoming year, but who will make that leap? And who will WWE allow to thrive and push into the main event spot?

WWE have dropped the ball on many talents that at one point they had invested time and effort in, others are waiting for an opportunity to break through. Here a 5 current stars WWE need to push.

#5 Baron Corbin

Baron
Baron Corbin lost his Money in the Bank cash-in to WWE champion Jinder Mahal

Baron Corbin's original push in WWE came to a grinding halt after his unsuccessful Money in the Bank cash-in on SmackDown last year. Many have speculated as to why WWE went cold on Corbin, but there's no reason why he cannot be elevated back to being a main event level Superstar in the near future.

Corbin's initial run cemented his status as a viable heel, he played the part of a vicious, aggressive, bully and became one of the leading villains on the roster. Corbin has the credibility to be one of the most prominent heels on the roster, something the WWE is seriously lacking right now.

Corbin's defeat to Jinder Mahal after cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase in August 2017 now looks a very bad move. Not only did Corbin lose, but the manner in which he lost, with a quick roll up, hurt his credibility badly. Corbin has already proven himself when given the chance, but he needs to be booked stronger than he has been if he is to flourish.

#4 Big E

Big
Big E has been touted for a heel run in recent weeks

Big E has had some stand out performances during his time in the WWE, particularly with the Usos. His strong style and athleticism give him believability, as does his promo skills.

Some fans would not like to see the New Day split up, but it certainly seems as if the group has run its course. All three men are capable of having strong solo runs, but Big E, in particular, has the star quality that could elevate him into being a main event level talent.

Many have speculated that Big E could turn heel after the upcoming superstar shakeup. If he were to have a solo run, turning him heel would be the preferable option, particularly in the short-term in order to reinvigorate his character. If he is kept as a face it might restrict his development due to his New Day links and he could fade into obscurity.

His heel turn could begin with him turning on Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston and then feuding with both. E certainly has the potential to be a have a strong singles run instead of being lumbered with his goofy New Day gimmick.

#3 Cesaro

Cesaro
Cesaro won the Andre the Giant memorial battle royal in 2014

Although Cesaro has had considerable success as one half of the Bar, he is certainly a Superstar that could have a strong solo run in the company.

Back in 2014, Cesaro was at the peak of his popularity, the Swiss Superman won the Andre the giant battle royal, at WrestleMania XXX - last eliminating Big Show by body slamming him over the top rope. But his push was short lived and was never given the chance to prove himself as a main event level star.

WWE does not seem to know how to push Cesaro effectively, however, he is not too dissimilar to Roman Reigns in terms of his character and he is defiantly more popular among the fans than the 'Big Dog'.

The only person not sold on Cesaro appears to be Vince McMahon and this is where his problem is. Whatever his future in the WWE may be, he certainly deserves better than to be losing at WrestleMania against Braun Strowman and a 10-year-old kid.

#2 Samoa Joe

Samoa Joe returned on the Raw after WrestleMania

Samoa Joe is one of best pure athletes in WWE right now. Joe's size and strength along with his quickness give him legitimacy as a main event level star. His work in TNA, ROH and NXT speaks for itself and he could replicate this in WWE if given the opportunity.

In TNA, Joe had some incredible matches with AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels and Kurt Angle among others which got the Samoan over with the audience in a big way. Joe's work in Ring of Honor with Kenta Kobashi and CM Punk was some of his best work. In these companies, Joe displayed his ability to be a top-level performer and to consistently perform at the highest level.

Since coming to WWE Joe has not hit the heights many were hoping. His short feud with Brock Lesnar had one of the best builds in recent memory and both of them told a great story in the lead up to a match. But Joe lost and never fully recovered since.

On the most recent episode of Raw, Joe challenged Roman Reigns to a match at Backlash. If Joe were to win this match, it could push him to a whole new level and give him credibility in the WWE.

#1 Dolph Ziggler

Z
Ziggler has not featured prominently in WWE recently

Dolph Ziggler is probably one of the most overlooked Superstar in the WWE right now. With incredible in-ring work as well as having strong promo skills, Ziggler has often been likened to Shawn Michaels.

Anyone who doesn't believe that Ziggler can be a main event level star only has to watch his work. His matches with Triple H from 2016 on Raw and against AJ Styles from the same year on SmackDown, showed that he is capable of being a main event calibre star.

His performance in the 2014 Survivor Series main event, in which Ziggler put on a 5-star performance to outlast The Authority and be the sole survivor, further reflected his outstanding in-ring capability.

The 'Showoff' is one of the most entertaining, engaging and exciting prospects on the roster, if he was ever to be pushed then it would be well deserved.
