Ever since WWE made the announcement that Payback will happen just a week after SummerSlam 2020, fans have been wondering why WWE took this decision.

As per Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE could pull off a big swerve by setting up a rematch at SummerSlam 2020 for the following week's Payback pay-per-view. He said that one of the two Championship matches - Drew McIntyre vs Randy Orton, or Braun Strowman vs Bray Wyatt, could happen again at Payback:

"The key will be an angle at Summerslam’s gonna lead to needing an immediate rematch. So it’ll be whatever that angle is, whether it’s Drew and Randy Orton... it’s gonna be one of the two major championship matches is gonna have to have an angle to build for an immediate return.”

Sportskeeda's Tom Colohue also reiterated the same and said that RETRIBUTION could potentially interfere in the main event of SummerSlam to set-up a rematch for the Payback pay-per-view on August 30.
