Reports later revealed that MVP had suffered a knee injury. The former United States Champion gave an update on his injury:
"As many of you know, my knee has been bothering me for a while now. While it is better, it hasn’t fully healed yet. We’ve been trying to avoid surgery, so we’re gonna try one more procedure. If that doesn’t work either, I might have to get some minor arthroscopic surgery for the knee but, not yet. We’re still gonna try another treatment first," MVP said on an episode of El Brunch de WWE in April.

Although he continued to play his role as Bobby Lashley's manager on WWE RAW, MVP remained out of action for nearly five months. He recently returned to in-ring competition when he teamed up with Lashley to take on The New Day. They lost the match after Kofi Kingston hit MVP with the Trouble in Paradise and pinned him.
