Over the years, the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) has been known for creating intriguing subplots for its wrestlers. While the scripts have often featured the perennial villains and protagonists, there have been occasions when related wrestlers have also made the headlines.

There are some successful brother combinations that we can look into. On many occasions, we have seen siblings form tag teams and go on to achieve great things in WWE. But, other times, we’ve also seen them engage in some memorable feuds.

WWE loves to put a show and what better way to do that than to pit two brothers against each other? The fans may not always approve of that, but such plots almost always end up being intriguing and endearing.

Indeed, brother combinations have made their marks in the WWE, some who won tag team titles together and also fought against each other in the course of their careers.

We take a look at 5 WWE Superstars who fought against their brothers:

#5 Cody Rhodes and Goldust

Former WWE Superstars Cody Rhodes and Goldust built up a mild rivalry by having a go at each other sometime back. The duo had a chequered history in the WWE, becoming tag team partners and at some point, adversaries.

Cody Rhodes and Goldust are both the sons of late American Dream Dusty Rhodes, who once managed them. The half-brothers have also previously been pitted against each other in the WWE's subplots. In 2015, the two became tag team partners but it all fell apart after they lost in a match against The New Day.

They blamed each other for the loss and eventually had to settle matters in the ring. At Fastlane, Goldust defeated Cody Rhodes in a singles contest, albeit via a roll-up. The brothers have since faced off several times in both singles and tag team contests.

#4 Rick and Scott Steiner

Back in the WCW, Rick and Scott Steiner were a huge talking point during their days. The two brothers were a dominant force and formed one of the greatest tag teams ever seen in the history of professional wrestling.

Both were also individually successful, although a bit of jealousy would eventually break their partnership. Growing tired of Rick’s more enhanced popularity, Scott turned on his elder brother, often refusing to tag him in matches. In 1998, this indifference cost the brothers their tag team belts.

The camel’s back was finally broken at SuperBrawl VIII. Scott attacked Rick during a tag team match against Hall and Nash. This episode started a feud between the brothers, who eventually went their separate ways before reuniting in 2001.

As a tag team, though, the brothers were hugely successful as they went on to become WCW World Tag Team Champions, one-time WCW United States Tag Team Champions, two-time WWE World Tag Team Champions and two-time IWGP New Japan World Tag Team Champions.

#3 Jeff and Matt Hardy

Jeff and Matt Hardy are very much liked by fans of the WWE. The brothers first teamed up in 1993 when they were with independent promotions in North Carolina. They joined the WWE in 2000 and have since achieved tremendous successes.

The “Hardy Boyz”, as they are known, dominated in high-octane matches, especially ones involving ladders, tables, and chairs. They have won the WWE/World Tag Team Championship six times, as well as many other individual titles.

But Jeff and Matt Hardy had their first feud in 2003. Matt grew jealous of his brother’s Intercontinental Championship opportunity and attacked Jeff, starting a long feud. In 2009, Matt again attacked his brother during a WWE title bout against Edge, allowing Edge to win the title.

Matt went on to disavow his brother, with the pair eventually squaring off. The Hardys faced off in one of the most exciting pay-per-views in WWE on the 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania – a match that was eventually won by Matt. The brothers have since faced each other in subsequent years, their most notable fights being a Stretcher Match and an “I Quit” match.

#2 Bret and Owen Hart

The Hart family, known in the WWE as the Hart Dynasty, has a significant history in professional wrestling. It is a family that has produced many great wrestlers over the years, but Bret and Owen Hart took the tag team division to a whole different level.

They also formed one of the most heated sibling rivalries in the history of professional wrestling. In one tag team contest against The Quebecers, Bret was unable to tag his brother after suffering a knee injury. When they eventually lost the match, Owen decided to direct his frustration at his brother by kicking his injured knee.

The brothers again faced off at WrestleMania X. The brutal battle stretched for longer periods, but Owen went on to emerge victorious, deepening the animosity between him and his brother.

Their most memorable battle, though, remains a legendary bout inside a steel cage at SummerSlam in 1994.

#1 Booker T and Stevie Ray

Just like the Steiner Brothers, Booker T and Stevie Ray blazed the trail in professional wrestling as a tag team. The brothers won the WCW World Tag Team Championship a record 10 times, having formed the tag team group Harlem Heat.

But unlike the other brothers who feuded due to ego, Booker T and Stevie Ray separated over a woman. In 1999, female bodybuilder Midnight joined Harlem Heat but Stevie Ray wasn’t enthused about the idea.

He went on to challenge the female bodybuilder to a match to determine whether she should remain with the duo but shockingly lost. Frustrated by his loss to Midnight, Stevie Ray turned on his brother.

In the year 2000, the brothers finally faced off at Souled Out, which was won by Booker T. The win, however, came by way of disqualification after Big T interfered in the match.
