#4 Damien Sandow (WWE Money in the Bank 2013 winner)

A lot of people believe that Damien Sandow could have made it huge in WWE had he been booked properly. With his in-ring talent and mic work, few can doubt the fact that he had the potential to make it big.

In 2013, it seemed like Sandow was ready to get a massive push as he won the Money in the Bank briefcase. He cashed it in over 100 days later against John Cena, but fell prey to the Attitude Adjustment after a really good match that ended in an unsuccessful cash-in.

Sandow opened up about his Money on the Bank cash-in during the Why It Ended with Robbie E podcast.

“Was I completely happy? No, but it was how I was treated after that match that was like, ‘OK, really?’ Everyone is high fiving me and the next thing I know is I’m dressed up like an astronaut or Daniel Boone or something like that. Again, I had no choice but to do the best I could. You never really saw me able to have some of those kind of matches. That’s the role I was cast in. The WWE is not my sandbox. I don’t get to call the shots. It is what it is. I have absolutely no idea [what the reason was] and you know what? If I kind of pondered that, I would make myself crazy, so I just had to let it go. It is what it is.”

Sandow was not happy with his cash-in as he believed WWE could have done so much more with him and the opportunity at hand.

Kevin Eck, a former WWE writer, took to SportingNews.com to talk about what went wrong during Sandows’ rise and fall when he held the Money in the Bank briefcase.

“After winning the MITB ladder match, Sandow began losing a lot more matches than he was winning. McMahon explained at the time that the losses wouldn’t hurt Sandow because he still had the briefcase. However, one of McMahon’s favorite sayings is “perception becomes reality.” The perception was that Sandow wasn’t world champion material, and McMahon eventually saw him that way as well.”
“When discussing Sandow at a booking meeting a few months after the MITB pay-per-view, McMahon said, "I think we went with the wrong guy.” So, on an episode of “Raw” that October, Sandow attacked then-champion Cena and cashed in the contract, only to have a weakened Cena rally to win the match.”

Looks like WWE had the right intentions for Sandow early on, but their bookings made them lose faith in an extremely talented Superstar who was released from the company in May 2016.
