Often we hear the phrase 'born with a silver spoon' thrown around very loosely to describe people who act entitled.
To your surprise, there are many people who have been born into rich families that you would never have guessed, even some wrestlers in the WWE today. Some current and former WWE superstars were fully born into a life of luxury that contrasts the gruelling demands of the world of the wrestling today.
Of course, wealth isn't a guaranteed gateway into the Pro-Wrestling industry neither does it affect the ability of a wrestler.
But it does give us an interesting insight into the upbringings of some of our beloved superstars. It also possibly gives us an insight into which wrestlers have truly done this to earn a livelihood and which are just looking for something to do.
In this article, we're going to look at five WWE superstars (past & present) that were born into rich families. The names on this list may surprise you.
#5 Rene Dupree
The youngest tag team champion in WWE history owes a lot of his success & wealth in life to his father, Emile Dupree. The Frenchman's father toured the United States working for several wrestling promotions, he was so popular that he even worked a few promotions across the pond in New Zealand and Australia.
Emile was a wrestler but also a full-time promoter. He owned a company called 'Grand Prix Wrestling', which he was able to secure a lucrative regional TV deal for.
The promotion worked on a nationwide circuit in the states, despite ceasing for a while the company made its long anticipated comeback in 2013, featuring none other than Renee Dupree as the star attraction. Throughout his career, Renee has been shadowed by his father both financially and professionally.
#4 Randy Savage
The late great Randy Savage was born into a famous & wealthy wrestling family which included the likes of Lanny Poffo and Angelo Poffo. Macho Man's father Angelo Poffo was a wrestling star in his own right, winning the NWA United States Heavyweight Championship in 1958 only ten years after he started wrestling.
Poffo was a wrestler by night but a promoter and businessman by day. Poffo owned a small regional promotion based in Kentucky called 'International Championship Wrestling'.
The ICW in its heydey was home to recognisable names like Bob Orton Jr. and The Original Sheik. Alongside running his own promotion, Poffo also bought a stake in 'Grand Prix Wrestling' the company owned by Emile Dupree.
In order to attract his children to the profession of wrestling, he would give Randy and his siblings jobs to do in both of the promotions. So despite living wealthily, Randy was brought up in modesty.
#3 Bret Hart
The Hart Family is a dynasty not only for their great wrestling heritage but for their class and abundance of wealth.
Headed by Stu Hart, the Hart Family were also a well-respected family in the business world. Stu Hart created ‘Stampede Wrestling’ in 1948, a Canadian based wrestling promotion that ran for almost half a century.
The Harts were comfortable and even lived in a mansion, known as the 'Hart House,' this building would be the foundation of several wrestling careers as Stu used the building to train various aspiring wrestlers.
Despite not being big enough to compete with the WWF, Stampede Wrestling’s popularity suffered due to Vince McMahon’s ruthless nature when it came to competition.
Regardless, the business supplied the needs of the Hart Family by providing them with a luxurious lifestyle and a sense of responsibility because all the kids were given administration roles within the company. Some were made to be referees while others were in charge of the ticket sales at arenas.
Stu felt that irrespective of his wealth, his children should be made to earn their pocket money.
#2 Glen Jacobs (Kane)
Despite being a long stay in the WWE for approximately two decades now, the Demon Kane is a still relatively unknown quantity. Not many know much about the man behind the mask.
What many don't know is that Kane, whose real name is Glen Jacobs, wasn't born in the States but in the Spanish capital of Madrid.
His family were part of the US Air force and were stationed in Madrid when Jacobs was born. Kane was born into wealth and high status, his family soon moved back to America after serving their duties and enrolled their kids in the top schools.
Kane went to Northeast Missouri University and graduated with a prestigious degree in English Literature. The Jacobs were an upper-class family with great wealth and strong political affiliations.
#1 Charlotte Flair
Being the daughter of one of the most famous wrestlers in history certainly has its perks. Not only is Charlotte known as Ric Flair's daughter but she has in her own right become one of the most dominant women's wrestlers of the 21st century.
Charlotte whose real name is Ashley was born to a man who spent almost four decades in the ring for a career, at the top of the industry.
Of course having Ric Flair as a Dad has led to a privileged life in financial terms for Charlotte but having a wrestler for her father, of course, has its psychological time share effects as well, especially one like Ric.
It's no secret that the two-time Hall of Famer lived a very extravagant lifestyle outside of the ring, with rumours suggesting that the 64-year old often spent thousands of dollars on regular night outs. These night outs could also stretch to days on the bender, which limited the time he was spending with his children.
When Charlotte was born, Flair was at the peak of wrestling powers in terms of both wealth and fame. In this scenario, wealth wasn't always enough to supply the needs of Charlotte as a child. I suppose money isn’t everything.
