5 WWE Wrestlers Who Don't Play Their Roles Correctly (and 4 Who Do)

Every WWE wrestler portrays a character in the ring. Whether it’s being a face or a heel, everyone has a gimmick.

Giving great matches and cutting promos aren’t the only ingredient that is required to become a professional wrestler. Every superstar has to play his/her character with perfection, and if they fail to do that, then their career may become stale.

Some wrestlers easily get into their character and play it to perfection, but some fail to do so. Here we will take a look at 5 WWE wrestlers who are portraying their character perfectly and 4 who aren’t.

#9 Isn’t playing to perfection - Ronda Rousey: The Baddest Women On the Planet

She should turn heel
She should turn heel

Ronda Rousey made her debut in the company in 2018. She fought her first match at WrestleMania 34 against Stephanie McMahon and Triple H. Soon after that, she won the Raw Women’s Championship by defeating Alexa Bliss.

She is enjoying her success in the WWE, but it’s arguable that she isn’t playing her role to perfection. The company advertises her as the “Baddest Women On the Planet”, but this seemingly isn’t the truth.

First of all, most of her feuds start with a wrong angle. Her feud with The Authority began because of Kurt Angle’s statements, whereas her feud with Nia Jax started with just a friendly challenge. It wouldn’t be wrong if I say that these were one of the worst ways to start a feud.

Ronda is playing a face character, but I have to say that she isn’t the ‘baddest’ women on the planet (and possibly in the WWE as well). The company should bring more seriousness to her character and should also turn a heel if they really want her to look like a real threat.

#8 Playing to perfection - AJ Styles: The Phenomenal One

The Phenomenal One can't miss this list

There’s no doubt that the Phenomenal One is going to make it into the list. He has done so many things in the WWE since debuting on the main roster in 2016.

First, he played the role of a heel superstar, and he nailed it. Later, the WWE decided to make him a face, but again, he played it with perfection. So far he has won the WWE Championship two times, and both of his reigns were amazing. He is currently in a feud with Daniel Bryan and will face him at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view for the WWE Championship.

The WWE calls him “The Phenomenal One” and to be honest, he is exactly like this. A few weeks ago, Vince McMahon asked him to show the animal hidden inside him, and it resulted in him getting attacked by the former world champion. This week on SmackDown Live, he attacked Bryan and proved that he is the face of this brand.

#7 Isn’t playing to perfection - Shinsuke Nakamura: The Japanese Superstar

Nakamura deserves something better
Nakamura deserves something better

Along with AJ Styles, Nakamura also debuted in the company in 2016. However, he didn’t directly make it to the main roster but instead, spent some time in the NXT.

Nakamura won last year’s Royal Rumble match and then decided to face AJ Styles at the WrestleMania. At Mania, not only did he lost his match, but also turned heel.

This was a fresh start to his character, but ultimately, it made everything worse for him. Nakamura started losing momentum, and even though the company tried to keep his character alive by giving him the US Title, it didn’t help him a lot.

Soon after that, he completely lost his credibility and now has become an average wrestler.

#6 Playing to perfection - Samoa Joe: A cold-hearted heel

Samoa Joe has done everything a heel could do

Possibly the best heel wrestler on the main roster right now, Samoa Joe has done everything a great heel wrestler can do. However still after that, the WWE isn’t treating him well.

He last feuded with Jeff Hardy, and it seemed like this feud didn't help him a lot. The actual problem is that Joe is portraying his character to perfection, but still, the WWE isn’t giving him tremendous opportunities. It’s true that he has faced AJ Styles for the WWE championship in the past, but he didn’t win it.

He is continuously cutting great promos and proving that he is one of the best heel wrestlers in the company. And, it clearly shows that he is playing his role perfectly. It would be right to say that he is a cold-hearted heel wrestler in the WWE who only cares about himself and this is what everyone loves about Samoa Joe.

#5 Playing to perfection - Charlotte: The Queen

Is Charlotte the best female wrestler?

Like her or not, you can’t ignore the fact that she is the queen. This isn’t just her gimmick in the WWE but also the truth.

Charlotte has done a lot of big things in the women division of the WWE, and it seems like the company also trusts her. She has main evented pay-per-views and also provided many great matches.

It doesn’t matter if she is a heel or face, she does everything perfectly. You can see this in her in-ring work. Her match against Ronda Rousey at Survivor Series was also really good.

A queen never fears anything, and this is what Charlotte does. She doesn’t seem to worry about her opponent a lot as she believes in herself. Some of the fans may not like her, but the truth remains the same that she is the real queen.

#4 Isn’t playing to perfection - Sasha Banks: The Legit Boss

Banks isn't The Legit Boss
Banks isn't The Legit Boss

It's a no surprise that Sasha Banks isn’t The Legit Boss as the company isn’t giving her a strong push.

Even though she will be facing Ronda Rousey at the Royal Rumble, it’s highly likely that she will lose in this match. The company is planning something big for the Rowdy One, and I think that after this event, Banks will again get lost in the shuffle.

She is also a great female superstar, but the company doesn’t seem to trust her. She hasn’t done anything in the company yet that could give her the title of being “The Legit Boss”.

She may have provided some great matches in the WWE but what's more important is how she is playing her role in the company. Maybe a heel turn would help her career to get back on the track.

#3 Playing to perfection - Seth Rollins: The New Face of the WWE

Rollins has impressed everybody
Rollins has impressed everybody

Seth Rollins had a really good 2018 as it helped him to become one of the most over face superstars in the WWE. He has done everything in the WWE that a fan would expect from a wrestler.

He has given great matches and promos and also played his role very professionally. I don’t have to praise him a lot as his work clearly shows it.

Even though his rivalry against Dean Ambrose made was a bit boring, the matches both superstars provided were great. Rollins is currently rumoured to win this year’s Royal Rumble match, and if it’s true, then everybody in the arena would be happy.

He has already established himself as a top superstar, but if he manages to defeat Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania this year, it will make his career even more amazing.

#2 Isn’t playing to perfection - The Miz: A babyface

The Miz should work as a singles superstar
The Miz should work as a singles superstar

The Miz is one of the best talkers in the WWE. He may not wrestle like other top superstars but still manages to make a rivalry special with his voice. He played the role of a heel in most of his career, and when the company tried to make him a face, the fans did not react well to him.

However, it seems like the company is now showing him as a face. Two weeks ago, he got attacked by The Bar, which felt like a face moment for The Miz. He is currently in a tag team with Shane McMahon and to be honest, this role isn’t fitting him. His character was much better when the company was portraying him as a singles heel superstar.

#1 Playing to perfection - Becky Lynch: The Man

Becky Lynch is a legit superstar

A year ago, Becky Lynch’s character wasn’t great. She wasn’t a top female superstar and was lost in the shuffle with other superstars.

However, things changed because of her fans, and then the company started giving her a push. She feuded with Charlotte Flair and then not only turned heel against her, but also won the Smackdown Women’s Championship. Lynch has now lost every fear that she had in the past and now, she doesn't care who is standing in front of her. She calls herself "The Man" and her attack on the Raw roster proves it why.

Fans were very excited to witness her match against Ronda Rousey at Survivor Series 2018, but Jax’s botch changed everything for her. However, there are rumours that she could be winning this year’s women’s Royal Rumble match to face Ronda Rousey for the Raw Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 35.

She does everything perfectly in the WWE, and this is why the fans cheer her over any other superstar in the company.
