When Kurt Angle originally parted ways with WWE back in 2006, it was due to health reasons. Nevertheless, he still exited the company on a decent note, having only recently challenged Rob Van Dam unsuccessfully for the ECW World Heavyweight title. Angle's last win on WWE TV came against The Brooklyn Brawler in August 2006 on ECW.

Angle made his return in 2017 and was appointed as the RAW General Manager. He did make his return to in-ring action soon enough but only fought on pay-per-view, with the most notable match being against Triple H and Stephanie McMahon where he had paired up with Ronda Rousey.

The Wrestling Machine finally won a match on WWE TV after over 12 years on the 8 October 2018 edition of RAW. Disguised as El Conquistador, Angle entered Baron Corbin's 10-Man Global Battle Royal for a spot in the WWE World Cup tournament that was set to take place at Crown Jewel PPV next month.

Angle sat at ringside while Corbin eliminated the rest of the participants. When it was down to these two men, the former hit three German Suplexes and the Angle Slam on Corbin before finally eliminating him to win the Battle Royal. Only then would Angle go on to take off his mask and reveal his identity.
