#1 Shawn Michaels defeated Bret Hart in one of the most controversial finishes in WWE
There can be no list of stolen finishers in WWE without the mention of the Montreal Screwjob. The infamous incident is one of the most controversial and talked about moments in pro-wrestling history.
The incident occurred at the Survivor Series pay-per-view in November 1997. Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels competed for the WWF (WWE) Championship, and Hart did not want to job out to Michaels in his hometown.
The Hitman accepted having a disqualification finish to the match and offered to surrender the title or give it up at a later date. Vince McMahon, however, had other plans in mind and decided to work a way around the problem as he knew that Hart was about to leave the company.
Late in the match, Michaels locked Hart in his own submission hold known as the Sharpshooter. It did not take long for the referee to call the bell and award the match to HBK even though Hart never really tapped out.
However, the history books suggest that Hart tapped out to his own finishing move, resulting in Michaels winning the match as well as the Championship. This was one of the most iconic moments in history where a wrestler lost to his own finisher.
