8 lesser known facts about Bray Wyatt

Welcome, Fireflies!
Welcome, Fireflies!

Bray Wyatt is one of the most famous active wrestlers in the WWE purely because of his gimmicks. He has been one of the best heels on the main roster since debuting, and his mind games have kept even the bravest superstars on the edge.

Being the leader of The Wyatt Family, he gave life to one of the best factions of the decade which brought forward many talented wrestlers. Luke Harper, Eric Rowan, and Braun Strowman are the men who benefitted the most for being a part of The Wyatt Family.

After The Wyatt Family broke up, he ran a successful gimmick alongside Matt Hardy, as the two created The Deleter of Worlds and took over the Raw Tag Team Championships.

Even though Bray had been away from Raw for quite some time, his return was predicted and now that he is back, many new gimmicks and mind games will be seen on Monday Nights regularly.

If you are a hardcore Bray Wyatt fan, then you would surely know about him coming from a family of Wrestlers. His father was IRS and his grandfather is a WWE Hall of Famer too, which makes him a third generation wrestler. His brother Bo Dallas, who is younger than him, has more experience in pro-wrestling.

These are the more common facts that all Bray fans are aware of. Here are some facts about Bray even his hardcore fans may be surprised to find out!

#8 He has a sister

We all know about his family and their ties to wrestling, but we never really knew that he had a sister until some random family photos surfaced on the internet! No, I am not talking about Sister Abigail - I am talking about his actual sister, Mika Rotunda.

Wondering what she does for a living? She is a writer, broadcaster, and a gym rat (in her words). With a family of wrestlers around her, it seems only natural she might have some interest in the business.

In July of 2015, she received a tryout with the WWE but not much has been heard since about how she did or if WWE was interested in her.

Even though Bray hasn’t revealed too much about his personal life on television or in interviews, a lot about him is known through his family.

#7 His win/loss ratio is horrendous

His WWE career is filled with loses
His WWE career is filled with loses

The Eater of Worlds’ win/loss record is pretty pathetic. While in WWE, Bray has lost nearly 70% of all of his matches, with him only winning one single match cleanly during the second half of 2015.

Even though his losses can be justified by the fact that he has remained a heel throughout his entire run in WWE, but at some point, a man needs to win.

He has feuded mainly with the top-level superstars in the WWE, and his push is justified given his gimmick and his skills, but his losses have surely dented the overall impact he could have had on the main roster.

Wyatt is featured in most WWE promotional material but is consistently jobbed out on WWE programming.

That is very unfortunate for the former WWE Champion, and that makes him no better than Jinder Mahal in the overall competition.

#6 He studied Broadcast Journalism

Bray managed to get a football scholarship and transferred from College of the Sequoias to Troy University where he majored in Broadcast Journalism.

He left Troy with only 27 credits left to earn his Bachelor's degree in hopes of becoming a professional wrestler and making it big in the industry.

Since he was studying for Broadcast Journalism, it seems like the training and the education has helped his wrestling career since it has moulded him into one of the best promo cutters on television today. This is one of the main reasons for his faction The Wyatt Family and then his tag team with Matt Hardy which was known as The Deleter of Worlds.

It's no surprise that someone as talented as Bray is on the microphone would look into television broadcasting as a profession.

#5 Bray Wyatt is his own creation

Welcome to Wyatt's Family

WWE assigns its wrestlers the gimmicks it wants them to portray, with the wrestlers often having little say in the character they're attempting to portray on screen.

While his initial run in WWE as Husky Harris saw him fall victim to this sad reality, Rotunda's transition into a Wyatt was completely self-discovered with the legendary Dusty Rhodes.

The character that we have all come to know came exclusively out of the mind of Wyatt as well as the vignettes that he debuted with, and the music that he enters the ring with.

WWE had so much faith in the package that Wyatt created that they didn't change a thing during his main roster debut in 2013. He carried the gimmick from NXT into the main roster after developing it.

In fact, very little has changed, and by the looks of it very little will during his WWE career if he continues the same gimmick going forward.

#4 He had the Best and Worst match in one year

He had a string of losses to Cena alone

Who can have the title of having both the Best and Worst match in the same year? Bray Wyatt of course, while being proud of it all.

All this happened in 2014 when Wyatt seemed to be having a pretty strange year. He had an awful rivalry with John Cena and a fantastic feud with Daniel Bryan.

The rivalry with Cena eventually led to the dubious title of “Worst Worked Match of the Year” from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter; from their match at Extreme Rules. However, the plot twist came with Pro Wrestling Illustrated would giving Cena’s and Wyatt’s match at Payback the title of “Best Match of the Year”.

Bray and Cena had quite an extended rivalry which was both interesting and boring. The two men had quite a few matches and gave fans their money’s worth at the end of it.

#3 He used the Stunner as a finisher

Stone Cold Steve Austin made the Stunner famous, also dubbing it the Stone Cold Stunner. John Cena has also been noted to use a variation of the Stunner on several occasions. Yet, no one has dared to use the iconic move as their finisher in respect of Steve Austin who is widely regarded as the father of the attitude era.

Bray has been the only well-known wrestler to use the Stunner as a finishing move. While he used the Stunner as a finisher as Alex Mulligan, Wyatt eventually switched to Sister Abigail when he became Bray Wyatt.

Had he been still using the stunner as his finishing move while using his current gimmick, he would have received quite a bit of heat from the fans.

Even though Sister Abigail doesn’t seem like an effective move, the theatrics is what makes it stand out from the rest.

His use of the Stunner as a finisher can be seen in the video below.

#2 Championship Title

Bray Wyatt was quite famous during his time in the NXT, but he never managed to win the NXT championship during his time at the Performance Center. Since his main motive of being in NXT was to establish The Wyatt Family, no one questioned his lack of success on the yellow brand.

However, his wait for any kind of singles gold when he arrived on Raw and SmackDown, was nothing short of unacceptable.

It took Bray almost four years on the main roster before finally clinching the company's most coveted title, outlasting five other Superstars in the 2017 Elimination Chamber.

It took him just six weeks to drop the title to The Viper Randy Orton at WrestleMania 33 in a high-profile match.

After his WWE Championship loss at WrestleMania 33, Bray wasted no time in challenging The Viper to a House of Horrors match.

The WWE was very sneaky and reserved in not broadcasting that the match was for the championship title so much so that right up to the match at the recent pay per view Payback most fans were still split over whether the title was on the line or not.

After all was said and done, it turned out that the match was definitely not a title match, making Bray look like more than just a bit of a fool for not requesting the rematch he was owed, especially after he won.

#1 He has been an inspiration

This may come across as a big surprise but there are at least some people who view him as an inspirational figure in a more positive manner.

In February 2016, a young fan posted a long message on Twitter about how he has had issues dealing with Asperger's syndrome and was being bullied throughout the school by a lot of people.

The fan wanted Wyatt to know that the WWE superstar and his group were inspiring to someone like him because of how different they were in the WWE.

While many other Twitter users sent him positive messages, when the original post reached the Eater of Worlds, he left some kind words of his own. “Life is our greatest gift. Keep your head up, you are never alone.”

Even a positive Tweet or message from a celebrity, especially one you admire or look up to, can have a great impact on your overall day and wellbeing. Bray is not shy of interacting with his fans and even giving them advice in his own twisted way.
