Big change for Andre the Giant battle royal?

Not good enough for the main show?!

Not good enough for the main show?!

Last week on Raw, Hulk Hogan announced a huge 30-men Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal with the winner of the match getting the Andre the Giant trophy. It was a welcome news for the fans who are really excited to know how WWE would cover up a 4-hour WrestleMania match card. But, a recent backstage news has hinted that this big match might be a part of the ‘preshow,’ heartbreaking isn’t it?!

As WrestlingInc.com reports: “It’s said that the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal for WrestleMania XXX may end up on the pre-show, which seems like a waste for a match that was announced by Hulk Hogan and features several top WWE superstars.”

Now, the idea of featuring such a huge match on the pre-show is clearly absurd for many reasons. First, the match was announced to pay tribute to a big WrestleMania icon – Andre the Giant, and to celebrate 30 years of WrestleMania, shifting something to the pre-show is definitely not the right idea of honoring that thing. Second, this match is to feature some of the best superstars of the company: Sheamus, Dolph Ziggler, Big Show, etc, who are former World Champions, so is the idea of placing several former world champions in a pre-show match good in any way? Plus, even John Cena was intent on participating in the match before challenging Bray Wyatt last week.

With that decision the WWE management is doing nothing except for increasing the gap between yesteryear guys like Batista and Randy Orton who are contesting for the biggest prize – the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, and present-day talent like Dolph Ziggler, Cesaro, Sheamus, Big E, etc. who have been restricted for just the pre-show, they aren’t even on the 4-hour long broadcast, it’s worse than it sounds. This battle royal match would have gracefully filled the 4-hour main show, it is one of those matches which the fans are willing to watch more than the main event match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship (if there is no Daniel Bryan in it).

Another reason why we were excited for this match was the reason that it would give those (old and up-and-coming) stars, who else wouldn’t have made it to the WrestleMania match card, a chance to prove their abilities at the “Grandest Stage of Them All” which the whole world would be watching.

I hope that the WWE Creative team rethink their idea of featuring this ‘Giant’ match on the pre-show, it should be placed where it belongs – to the main show.
