What’s the story?
WWE Hall of Famer Edge appeared on Inside the ropes during its tour in Glasgow, Scotland and gave his thoughts on who should main event WrestleMania 35.
In case you didn’t know…
On April 11, 2011, the very night after the WWE Hall of Famer successfully defeated Alberto Del Rio to retain the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XXVII, Edge shocked fans around the world when he announced that he was forced to retire.
His previous neck injury and cervical vertebral fusion made the ‘Rated R Superstar’ feel numbness in his arms. While he passed basic-strength tests prior to the WrestleMania bout, the company urged him to get further testing and an MRI result forced him to retire.
Edge was diagnosed with cervical spinal stenosis, and doctors would not clear him to compete, for risk of neck-down paralysis or even death should he take a hard bump.
Edge retired with 11 World title reigns under his belt and main evented WrestleMania XXIV as he defended the World Heavyweight Championship against The Undertaker in a match that was billed as streak vs. streak.
The heart of the matter
The WWE Hall of Famer knows what it's like to be in the main event and understands what it takes to headline the Grandest Stage Of Them All. Edge still keeps up with the WWE product and shared his opinion on Inside The Ropes on who deserves to main event WrestleMania 35, which was translated by Ross Kelly from Wrestlinginc.com:
"It's not just because we're here [in Scotland]. I would say if we were in Boise, Idaho. I would say if we were in Jackson, Mississippi. I would say if we were in Kalamazoo, Michigan… Drew McIntyre," Edge said of his pick to main event WrestleMania.
"I've always really liked Drew. We've always gotten along. He's always come to me for advice and I know he actually comes because he wants advice, not just because it's the political thing to do. He implements that advice or tries to and if it doesn't work for him, that's fine."
What’s next?
Edge recently returned to his main WWE home, SmackDown Live, on the 1000th episode hosting his talk show, The Cutting Edge. Outside of wrestling, Edge continues to act in various projects including his WWE exclusive network show, The Edge and Christian Show That Totally Reeks of Awesomeness, which is currently running their second season.
