Fastlane 2019: Predicting the outcome of each WWE championship match

Since its introduction, Fastlane holds a special place on the road to WrestleMania. The 2019 event has led to WWE recalling some familiar faces and calling up a few top NXT superstars to the main roster to make the event something worthwhile.

Fastlane is a relatively new pay-per-view and hasn’t seen too many memorable moments. However, this installment is sure to give fans some things to remember for a long long time with the match card that is set.

A total of seven matches will be fought on the main card, with five being championship matches. Other than that, a high-profile and high-flying kickoff match has also been set for the event.

With the return of Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens, fans will get to watch their favorite superstars in action after quite a long time.

With that said, let's take a look at the five championship matches for the event and predict the outcome of each match which will have an impact on WrestleMania 35.

#5 The Revival (c) vs. Aleister Black and Ricochet vs. Chad Gable and Bobby Roode - Triple threat tag team match for the WWE Raw Tag Team Championship

A battle between the best of Raw's Tag Team division

The Revival has had a very tough time on the main roster. Even though it took them months to win the Raw Tag Team Championship, they finally did so on the February 11 episode of Raw.

However, this hasn’t really eased their worries as they have been losing matches left, right and center even after their championship win. The arrival of Ricochet and Aleister Black hasn’t really helped their cause either, and the duo has beaten the Revival twice already in three weeks and taken the Tag Team Division by storm.

This has also led to people forgetting the former Tag Team Champions Bobby Roode and Chad Gable, who’ve been awaiting their rematch, and will finally get it a month after losing the titles.

Currently, The Revival is the only solid tag team on the Raw division, and are certainly the most deserving title holders. Bobby Roode and Chad Gable don’t need to win the championships again and should branch off to singles competition as the Raw mid-card has opened up once again.

Black and Ricochet have provided unlimited entertainment on both Raw and SmackDown, but it’s too early to put the titles on them already as they are also competing in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic on NXT.

Even though The Revival have been losing more matches, it seems highly likely that they will retain the titles on Sunday.

Prediction: The Revival will retain the Raw Tag Team Championship.

#4 The Usos (c) vs. The Miz and Shane McMahon - Tag team match for the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship

Will The Usos retain their titles?
Will The Usos retain their titles?

What seemed like an unlikely partnership has actually turned into something enjoyable in the past couple of months. The Miz and Shane McMahon’s alliance was resisted by fans at first, but they have had a decent time on the blue brand since pairing up.

While Miz and McMahon's run as SmackDown Tag Team Champions did not last too long, The Usos are sure going to further increase the value of the titles.

While the match between the two teams will be for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship, all eyes will be on The Miz and Shane and who will turn on who to start the build toward a one-on-one match at WrestleMania 35.

WrestleMania is just a month away, and if WWE is planning to split the duo up, it will have to be at Fastlane which will be held in Miz's hometown of Cleveland.

As for The Usos and the tag team titles, the return of The Hardy Boyz could result in a match between the two teams at WrestleMania 35, which will surely be an incredible one.

Expect a hard-fought match with Shane and Miz coming within inches of winning the titles before The Miz turns on Shane.

Prediction: The Usos will retain the SmackDown Tag Team Championship.

#3 The Boss 'n' Hug Connection (c) vs. Nia Jax and Tamina - Tag team match for the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship

This could be an interesting match!
This could be an interesting match!

History was made at Elimination Chamber when Sasha Banks and Bayley outlasted five other teams to become the inaugural WWE Women's Tag Team Champions.

Both women have carried the titles well as they have proven to have the best chemistry both inside and outside the ring. Unlike all the other championships in WWE, the duo has popped up on even NXT and made it clear that they are willing to defend against any duo from any brand.

The team of Nia Jax and Tamina have been thrown together by the creatives, and have been built as the heel powerhouses of the main roster. Even though they may have all the strength and experience, they aren’t the best challengers for the championship.

While Bayley and Jax had a match two weeks ago which Bayley won, and Banks and Tamina had one last week which Tamina won, it won’t do much good to the company if the heels win before WrestleMania.

Bayley and Banks are the hottest female tag team in WWE at the moment, and they should carry the titles into WrestleMania 35.

Prediction: The Boss 'n' Hug Connection will retain the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships.

#2 Asuka (c) vs. Mandy Rose - WWE SmackDown Women's Championship

Will The Empress of Tomorrow walk away with her title?
Will The Empress of Tomorrow walk away with her title?

Asuka won the SmackDown Women’s Championship at Tables, Ladders, and Chairs 2018, and has held the title for over two-and-a-half months now. However, it is safe to say that the championship has never seen such a dull reign in its combined eleven reigns.

For the past six months or so, the blue brand has been heavily focused on Becky Lynch and Charlotte, which has led to Asuka slipping down the ranks even as the champion.

On the February 19 edition of SmackDown, Mandy Rose picked up the biggest win of her career when she pinned Asuka thanks to some heelish tactics and distractions. This has given Rose the opportunity to challenge for the title at Fastlane.

While Rose has definitely improved in the ring, it seems like she is just a filler opponent for the Empress to defend her championship at a pay-per-view. This means that there is little to no chance that she will be winning her first championship at Fastlane.

Rumors also suggest that Lacey Evans will challenge Asuka for the title at WrestleMania 35, and therefore we can expect that Asuka will be holding the title until at least WrestleMania.

Prediction: Asuka will retain the SmackDown Women's Championship.

#1 Daniel Bryan (c) vs. Kevin Owens - WWE Championship

Kevin Owens hasn't really had the best time at Fastlane
Kevin Owens hasn't really had the best time at Fastlane

With Kofimania, we mean WrestleMania, just around the corner, this will be the only singles men’s championship which will be defended at the event. In a surprising turn of events, Vince McMahon changed Bryan’s opponent from Kofi Kingston to the returning Kevin Owens just over a week back.

Kevin Owens has returned as a completely different person and as a babyface, unlike his previous outings with WWE. However, there is little to no background and story behind this feud, and it seems more like a placeholder more than anything just like the one between Mandy Rose and Asuka.

At this point in time, we expect Bryan to also retain his championship at the event and face another opponent at WrestleMania 35. A clean loss for Owens could prove to be damaging though.

Therefore, the introduction of Mustafa Ali to the picture makes more sense now, as he and Rowan could prove to have an impact on the match and their interference or distraction will have a massive impact on the match.

With the hype that has been built up around Kofi’s first ever one-on-one shot at the championship, and him pinning the WWE Champion Daniel Bryan just a few weeks back, it makes the most sense that Bryan will retain his championship and defend it against Kofi at WrestleMania.

As for Kevin Owens, he could find a new rival in Rowan or Mustafa Ali for some weeks until he gets back in the title picture. Or who knows, maybe Sami Zayn will reemerge to cost Owens the title and reintroduce their rivalry to the fans.

Prediction: Daniel Bryan retains the WWE Championship.
