Five wrestlers we would like to see face Seth Rollins for the Intercontinental Championship

Intercontinental champion Seth Rollins
Intercontinental champion Seth Rollins has been on a good run

At Wrestlemania 34, Seth Rollins defeated The Miz and Finn Balor in a triple threat match to win the Intercontinental Championship.

It was a stellar match, one of the greatest opening matches in 'Mania history. Since then, Rollins has gone on a great run as champion, defending the belt across the globe.

His standout performances every week on Raw has earned him the moniker, Monday Night Rollins.

Recently, Rollins has issued an open challenge for the title every week on Raw. This is exactly what John Cena did with the United States Championship in 2015 and that made the title mean something.

It gave us many memorable championship matches and helped to improve the stock of many competitors.

It created stars out of the likes of Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, to name a few. Hopefully, Rollins can do the same to elevate his challengers and provide us with many memorable matches as well.

So far, he has been doing just that. Successful title defences against Balor, Mojo Rawley and Owens on the last three episodes of Raw, along with an incredible match at Backlash against The Miz are the highlights of his still-young title reign.

Rollins is WWE's most consistent performer at the moment and will continue to burn it down (no pun intended) every week on Raw as the Intercontinental champion.

Here are five superstars who would greatly benefit from an Intercontinental championship match with the Kingslayer.

#1 Sami Zayn

Zayn has been doing some incredible heel work
Zayn has been doing some incredible heel work recently

This week on Raw, Rollins beat Kevin Owens in a great match to retain his title. It is just fair if his best friend receives a shot sometime soon as well. Zayn's character work as a heel has been magnificent and that warrants a reward. The fact that he hasn't yet won a title on the WWE main roster is astonishing.

Zayn has answered an open challenge before, as Bret Hart introduced him in front of a thunderous hometown crowd in Montreal for a US Championship match with Cena.

He injured his shoulder during his entrance, but still put on a blinder of a match. He can do the same with Rollins.

We have seen these two face each other before, but not after Zayn turned heel and aligned with Owens.

Their matches were good but did not reach the high levels that both men are capable of reaching.

With a proper heel and face dynamic and a championship environment, this could be one of the best TV matches of the year. Zayn hasn't had a truly stellar match since turning heel, but this could be the one.

#2 Bobby Roode

The Glorious One needs to turn heel
The Glorious One needs to turn heel

Is there any superstar, at the moment, who is more boring than Bobby Roode? Probably not. Nothing he is doing currently can be classed as "Glorious".

That word is basically all that his character is. It has been well documented for months, that Roode cannot be an effective babyface.

Answering Rollins' open challenge could be that thing that could pull the trigger on a much-needed heel turn for the Glorious One.

They can do great things together, especially if Roode turns into a corporate villain. That would be the perfect role for him. He plays the smug, arrogant suit-wearing heel very well.

Roode is very similar to Triple H in that way, and it opens up a bag of storyline possibilities for him and Rollins to explore.

Roode, 41, doesn't have that much time left to have a truly memorable run on the main roster, so hopefully, he does make the turn as soon as possible.

#3 Apollo Crews

WWE has done a disservice to Crews' talent
WWE has done a disservice to Crews' talent

Apollo Crews was called up to the WWE main roster immediately following Wrestlemania 32. He had hardly spent a few months in NXT before making the jump.

A longer stay would have helped him greatly, as he lacks the charisma and personality required to be a success in the WWE.

He hasn't been able to get going on the main roster at all and his talent is not being showcased like it should be.

Crews' strength and athleticism make him a very unique talent, and he deserves the opportunity to show the world what he can do.

Rollins's open challenge is the perfect avenue for this.

Right now, Titus Worldwide has been pretty over thanks to Titus's epic fail at the Greatest Royal Rumble.

WWE can capitalise on this and give Crews a few minutes to create some magic in the ring with Rollins. This could turn a corner for the former Uhaa Nation's fortunes.

#4 Chad Gable

Is he ready, willing and Gable to face Seth Rollins?
Is he ready, willing and Gable to face Seth Rollins?

Chad Gable recently moved to Raw in the Superstar Shake-up and was separated from his tag team partner, Shelton Benjamin.

Hopefully, Gable is able to progress as a singles wrestler on the red brand. He showed promising signs of a singles run last year on Smackdown, when he had some fun matches with AJ Styles and Owens, during their feud for the US Championship.

Gable possesses natural charisma, which he has shown as both a face and a heel. He can be funny or serious, and people would buy into it.

His Olympic history further signifies the similarities between him and WWE Hall Of Famer, Kurt Angle. He can be a star, he has all the tools for it.

A match between Gable and Rollins for the IC title would steal the show on any given Raw. He is supremely talented in the ring and his character work is severely underrated. If he gets a chance to shine, he will take it with both hands and make the most of it.

#5 Jason Jordan

Rollins' former tag team partner is set to return
Rollins' former tag team partner is set to return

Gable's former tag team partner, Jason Jordan was last seen on Raw in February, costing Rollins and Roman Reigns a match for the Raw Tag Team Championships.

A neck injury has kept him out of action since then. But he is reportedly ready to return at any time now. Having him return to face Seth Rollins for the IC title is something that should happen.

Angle's storyline son was set to face Rollins at Wrestlemania before he got injured. Now that he on the verge of returning, WWE should save it for a Rollins Intercontinental title open challenge.

Him returning to answer Rollins's open challenge would be a great surprise, considering that they have history together.

One thing that everybody forgets about Jason Jordan is that he is actually a really good wrestler.

Rollins and him somewhat worked as an awkward pairing, and they would work tremendously well in the ring together. WWE could even morph this match into the feud we were originally going to get.

Whoever comes out to face Rollins in the coming weeks, they are set to be elevated. Rollins is at the top of his game and is doing a good job in following The Miz as the Intercontinental champion.

The Intercontinental title feels prestigious again, and it is thanks to the work of The Miz and now, Rollins. The title doesn't make the man, the man makes the title.
