From The WWE Rumor Mill: Possible reason why Elias pinned John Cena on this week's Raw 

What’s the story?

As noted on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw, “The Drifter” Elias got a huge pinfall victory over both John Cena and Braun Strowman and during the latest edition of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer discussed Elias’ big win on Raw and the particular reason behind him pinning John Cena in the match.

In case you didn’t know…

As seen on this week’s Raw; Elias, John Cena, and Braun Strowman competed in a special triple threat match where the winner would get the advantage of entering last in this year’s Elimination Chamber match.

As expected, in this match Strowman looked absolutely unstoppable destroying both of his opponents, however, after a brief team-up Elias and Cena would get rid of Strowman and battled it out among themselves. Elias would eventually take advantage of a Running Powerslam from Braun Strowman, as he eventually pinned John Cena and got a much important win.

The heart of the matter

As per reported by Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Radio, the actual reason why WWE let Elias pin John Cena is to help “The Drifter” get over with the WWE Universe and further solidify the on-going rivalry between Cena and Elias.

Meanwhile, Meltzer believes that the apparent motive behind Strowman’s post-match assault was to make him look as one of the strongest WWE superstars heading into this year’s Wrestlemania 34 event in New Orleans.

What’s next?

The Elimination Chamber pay-per-view will take place later this year on the 25th of February and as of right now, five men have been confirmed to enter the grueling chamber as Roman Reigns, John Cena, Braun Strowman, The Miz, and Elias (who gets to enter last in the match) will battle it out among themselves.

However, as noted on Raw, Bray Wyatt, Apollo Crews, Matt Hardy, and Finn Balor will get a second chance to qualify for the Chamber match when they compete in a fatal four way next week on Raw.

The rivalry between Elias and John Cena has been really entertaining so far and seeing Elias pin John Cena on an episode of Raw is something really unusual and substantial at the same time.
