From the WWE Rumor Mill: Special referee chosen by WWE for Brock Lesnar vs Jinder Mahal at Survivor Series
What's the story?
When WWE first announced Jinder Mahal vs Brock Lesnar a lot of people wondered how they were going to book their way out of this match.
Now it looks like a special referee is on the way and F4WOnline has confirmed WWE's intention to have a very special referee at Survivor Series.
In case you didn't know...
Survivor Series is one of WWE's 'Big Four' pay-per-views but all roads lead to WrestleMania when you cut it down to brass tacks.
Therefore a match between Brock Lesnar and Jinder Mahal is most likely just a placeholder until Lesnar meets Roman Reigns at 'The Show Of Shows' in New Orleans.
The heart of the matter
With Survivor Series drawing closer the card is starting to take shape in many ways. One possible leaked poster which we reported about earlier this week could have turned out to be spot on. Because F4WOnline is reporting that John Cena is going to get the call to special referee the big champion vs champion match against Jinder Mahal and Brock Lesnar in Houston this year.
Adding Super Cena to the mix here would present a lot of options when it comes to booking. But more importantly, it will give WWE an easier way to tell the story if Jinder Mahal vs John Cena is the big match Vince McMahon is thinking about for WrestleMania 34.
It was initially said that Vince McMahon wanted someone like The Rock or Steve Austin to fill the role of special referee. But it looks like they're landing on John Cena which is probably a better move in the long run.
John Cena could put on his black and white striped shirt and officiate a match while calling it right down the middle. However, Jinder Mahal could still find a way to blame his loss on Cena as well.
Of course, all of this is still contingent on whether Mahal can keep his WWE Championship after he's done with AJ Styles on SmackDown Live next week.
Survivor Series will be interesting and whether you're rooting for Jinder Mahal or Brock Lesnar there will still be plenty of people excited to see the special referee in the contest as well which is always fun.
