Impact Wrestling (TNA) News: Matt Sydal returns to Impact

Matt Sydal is best known for his time as Evan Bourne in WWE

What’s the story?

Matt Sydal, better known as Evan Bourne for his time with the WWE, returned to Impact Wrestling. The April 21, 2017, Impact tapings saw the 34-year old defeat Trevor Lee using his signature Shooting Star Press manoeuvre.

In case you didn’t know...

Matthew Joseph Korklan, who goes by the ring name Matt Sydal, previously performed for Impact back at Victory Road in ’04 and was primarily used as a jobber by the company.

Wrestling as Evan Bourne for WWE from 2008-14 where he won the Tag Team Championship with Kofi Kingston, Sydal has also performed for several indie promotions since 2014 and as we had previously reported, has now signed with Impact Wrestling. And how can we forget this:

The heart of the matter

Impact’s April 20th tapings were headlined by a 6-Way match for the X-Division championship that saw several stars return to the company, including Impact veterans Sonjay Dutt and Low Ki. The matchup also featured new Impact-signee Dezmond Xavier in the 6-Way matchup.

Matt Sydal’s debut came barely hours after the aforementioned X-Division showcase against one of the division’s most prominent stars- Trevor Lee.

Impact Wrestling has been reportedly trying to beef up its X-Division roster, and Sydal’s recruitment seems to be yet another step in the same direction. Here’s a glimpse of the former WWE and ROH tag team champion’s Impact debut:

What’s next?

Sydal defeated former X-Division champion Trevor Lee and fans can expect the WWE and ROH veteran to get a decent push from Impact management and a potential shot at the X Division title as well.

Author’s take

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, Sydal is one of the best high-flyers in the business and mind you, if Impact management were to book him well, he can most definitely become a star attraction for the company in the near future.

Watch out for that Shooting Star Press folks!
